Ah yes the myth of negative database as an actual method of scrubbing... ;)

There are several issues with neg db scrub, the primary one in my mind being the fact that people don't keep the same cc number for a year in most cases -- too many 'pay off your balance and get 1.2% interest for 6 months' or whatever the current rates are. If you've got decent credit you can get as many different cc numbers as you like basically, so it pretty well negates negative db right off the bat.

As to the issues of scrubbing itself, I'm sure that some processors probably have to increase their scrubbing in order to maintain acceptable ratios, especially when the cc's willy nilly lower and change the acceptable cb rates whenever they like, and always in the direction of less acceptability.

Processing, whether with third party or your own merchant acct, is a numbers game just like anything else. If your cb rate is too low, you are denying too many good cards along with the bad. On the other hand, if you run too close to the limit and Visa or MC all the sudden jacks that limit by half, you're looking at some fine trouble if you don't move to do something.

Of course we aren't even taking into account transaction volume and how that can have a massive effect on things...
