That's what I did for 2 years
No point throwing money into something or using up your ideas on the same old crap.
"The next big thing" was your pharmacy - it might not be porn, but the technique for selling is the same whatever the widget
very very true....
Now I have my own Doc ,Pharma ( and a back up pair waiting in the wings ) plus I'll also pay everyone that hits it at the end of....hmmmm 3 days...fuck I might even pay daily.ICQ me...and yeah...bp , processing...blah blah...got them
But ITS not the next big thing......
I don't know what the "NEXT BIG THING" is...but there is one
I can smell it...can't see it or touch it yet...but it IS out there...just round the corner
Well - not according to TGP owners, business has never been better
But yes, net porn is dead in the form we knew it... now it will be dog eat dog - anyone looking to cashing let me know.
But there are still good ideas on the net, which are just starting - I know a guy who spend less than 30K on a new idea in mainstream 6 months ago, and today its doing 80-100K per month - so the insane profits are still there - just not in porn.

ANY "next big thing" sold on the internet has a short self life these days. We've seen it happen with all the flavors of porn. But if you hit while it's hot, you have the capital to hit the next one
A friend of mine who used to be in porn got out a few years ago. He started with cell phones, hit big, they started dying down. Went to credit cards. Hit big, died down. Next up, health insurance. Then mortgages. Right now he's doing payday loans. Once they die down, he'll do what he did with the others - keep them on the back burner so they still bring in sales, but focus on the "next big thing".

Being adaptable on the internet is imperative.
I know now one thing about your friend.....
He's a spammer!!!!! LOL
The only people who can change targeted traffic that fast , are ;-)))
....not that there WAS anything wrong with that ;-)))
Are you looking for what to promote or looking for what there is a want/need for and then selling that ?
What's going to be the product to promote/sell if interest rates rise?
If the US hits a recession again?
If oil prices rise again? (I'm looking for easy fear sales)
What is the new tech everyone will be on?
What do people need, more importantly what do people want?
Patent business doesn't look too bad
I certainly don't have the answer but agree
Porn is dead (if not it's certainly on life support) and boring

gotta pay to see them is what their gonna do
NICE, and they will pay for celeb pics
i remember when celeb sites would outsell anything else on the market and it wasnt that long ago.
Not sure if everybody knows but there's a current RIAA-ish crackdown on hi res images on the net right now. So hi res pics might probably be a little harder to come by.
See, one of the best sources for hi res pics (dainews.nu) was hit with a copyright infringement notice from lawyers.
Apparently this all started when some eBay user was selling some Jessica Alba photos with the Dai watermark removed in an auction. A member on Dai's site decided to bid on a pic and then back out at the last minute - questioning the legitimacy of the work. Whoever the seller was is also a member at Dai's site because the guy that bid on the pic outed the seller in an e-mail by their screen name. The seller then had all his auctions terminated when the good samaritan reported him. The seller then reported Dainews to the company that legally owns these hi res pic so as to kill source material from getting on Dainews.
It was MediaVast that issued out the cease and desist letter. Mediavast is also affiliated with WireImage, FilmMagic, Contour Photos and WireImageSTOCK. All sources of hi res pictures on the net.
MediaVast is also slowly going after other sites that are distributing these hi res pics. See, they don't want people sharing these hi res pics anymore. At least not for free. And definitely not for a price on any other site besides their own.
WireImage, for example, charges something like $79.95/month for access to their entire archive of pics. By having other people share those hi res pics outside of their site, they're pretty much losing money that way.
Take a look at the message Desperado put on his site:
"As of today, this site will no longer offer HQ type pictures. There are too many potential problems going on these days, and we do not need them. This site is free; let's keep it that way. From this point on only caps, collages, scans, etc. will fill these pages.
Remember, unless it is a vidcap or some other non HQ image, it will no longer appear on this site."
So what does this all mean? Well, as you all probably know, i LOVE posting hi res pics. I don't know if i'll still be posting them up as much, seeing as to how they *might* be harder to find, but i also wouldn't want any trouble from lawyers and crap. Not that they would ever come for me but hey, you never know.
Anyhow, it's still too early to tell what's gonna happen. Maybe things'll change, maybe they won't. We'll just have to see. After all, people are still sharing MP3's like crazy aren't they?
MasterP, yes people are still sharing mp3's like crazy ...
but have you tried to download a new release lately? there's 1 actual quality file for every 50 fake's, edits, half songs etc. If I want something new, I buy it because its not worth $20 to try to find it. The only time I use file sharing programs now is every few months to get limited edition and live recorded style stuff ...
If you make something difficult enough, people will pay for an easier alternative.
And you can promote that easy alternative by clicking the banner below *wink*
C'mon guys...it is all about MARKET SHARE...the bigger your share...the more $$$
porn is not dead and will never be....emailing is not dead...nor will it ever be....
"relationship" marketing is still going strong....maybe the numbers have dropped but hell...compare it to any other form of advertising to the same # of folks and see what you get...
If a customer wants your email...they will be able to get it.....we have a new program that is doing just fine..AOL,Yahoo,hotmail...etc...can spam compliant.
It requires a lot more work..but it is still effective.....just launched a new porn site....
numbers are not as great as in 99 but it still turns a profit.....
you just cannot cut corners anymore for the "easy buck"....
On that note....i am buying traffic ;-)

I agree totally Nick.... that is why I sold all my sites last year. Dave & I have been involved in "the next big thing" for 18 years. For the first time - we can't see a 'next big thing that we are qualified to be involved in.
It all started with my computer store...... We sold all the early computer types: Vic 20, Commodore 64, Atari, Sanyo, Leading Edge & software for the TI and Color Computer. In the 80's it was profitable. People who couldn't afford Apple and IBM showed up in droves. That is how we got involved in shows. Taking trade-ins to hamfests & computer shows.
While at one of these shows in the early 90's we ran into someone who had some CD Roms & CDRom drives. For Dave, the technology was 'love at first sight. We took some on consignment & never looked back. We did shows all over the country with the technology. Everywhere we went we ran into someone who was a dealer & wanted to buy from us, or a producer who wanted us to distribute thier CD. If you had CDs (especially Adult) you could trade for anything you wanted. They were like inflated money. The retail profit margins were at least double what you paid for them, & the wholesale prices were $10 a CD over cost. Dealers bought 100 CDs of the same title at a time. By taking a booth at Comdex, CES, PC Expo and the such, we became known worldwide. We did a Tuesday night fax with all the new titles & I would be receiving orders within minutes of starting the fax. We eventually started representing all the biggies who then came into the market like Vivid & VCA. (who eventally overwhelmed the market by realeasing a million titles, and you could not sell titles in 100 lots anymore)
That is how we got into producing tradeshows in 1994 - when Comdex kicked all the Adult companies out. Since we already represented most of them - and were tradeshow veterans ourselves - we started AdultDex. Eventually stated Cybernet in 1998.
After searching for 'the next big thing for 2 years, - I guess the 'next big thing for me is retirement.... hahahhahha I have found that I actually enjoy slowing down, and not working every waking hour. But, if I stumbled on to 'that next big thing - that would probably change in a heartbeat:-)

I think its amazing that I can still get 4.99/minute on cam. And I dont give no free peeks or anything like that shit either. They know better than to start asking me for free peeks.
How can you not get money from a guy with a hardon???
If women ran the internet this shit would not have happened. You guys are not good at this game!
I think there should be a law, punishable by castration... no man is allowed to ever have an orgasm unless he buys a woman an expensive gift (for the lazy ones cash will be fine). And the ones that whine about it... they pay DOUBLE!!!

LMAO
I've always thought how did we end up here giving so much porn for free, when guys with a hardon will do absolutely anything for a release ... its the easiest product in the world to sell ... but we trained our customers not to pay!!!!

We - men - like to build things - especially our egos, and since some didn´t make enough $ to brag about it, than a unamed male webmaster started to brag about how many visitors he had, and then came counters, so everyone could take part in this quest for glory, and prove their manhood to each other... look mine is bigger than yours.
Yes, it was us - men - who killed the golden goose, so we could prove to each other that we were on top of all the world wankers - in the ultimate quest to be lord of the wankers!

Excellent Sabby (I don't think it's amazing. Makes perfect sense to me)
except when it's personal - I turn it around (other men lack the intelligence and fortitude to do so)
Would be as soon as you want $$$ for orgasm ... fine but you're not getting off with another person until I get what ever I want
It's a 2 way street
Ladies hold the aces
And their lovers call it passion
The men call it pleasure
But to me it's old fashioned

Abso-fucking-lutely!!!!
and it's why I scream at the walls
But girls with a throbbing clit will go a ways as well
Turning them on and turing them down has always been more fun that just giving it up (in bars that is)
Edit - for spelling

Opening 50 sites of th sme old, boring generic bullshit content with the same plguins is dead...having 3 sets of a black model and calling it an ebony site is dead....bullshitting surfers is dead...
Oddly enough, I'm seeing the biggest growth in an area that almost seems in conflict bwith what seems to be killing the business...non-nude sites...that's right, sites where the models aren't even naked..all about the tease. The scene used to be full of scumbags and douchebags, but the underage modeling guys are gone from the scene now. The traffic from the NN TGP's isn't bad and conversions are great and these are all teaser galleries that "normal" TGP sites wouldn't even look at. Maybe it's a reaction to all of the extre porn and people are finally ready for some good old fashioned, well lit tease and softcore. Maybe it's the Maxim effect?
There also seems to be more of a trust factor where the the surfer actually trusts these sites and know they aren't going to get triple billed, buttfucked, ripped off and overall jacked. They also fall for these girls and stay longer.
Single girl amateur sites have always retained well and this new generation of non-nude/softcore sites continue that tradition.
Our best converting site, BustyAmatuerBoobs barely has any hardcore on it at all, yet, our conversions and retention is better than average, because we don't bullshit the surfer, we give them what we promise and oddly enough they love us for it and they even buy our upsells to other paysites because they TRUST us. We get emails every day from surfers who love what we're doing and like the fact we don't jack them around and give what we promise: amateurs with huge natural tits. They could give a shit about hardcore.

I remember all of us talking about doing those non-nude sites but thinking "too risky".

really?
says who?
Plenty of companies still making a fortune off bullshitting surfers - and its not just in adult. Marketing is 10% bullshit 90% presentation of bullshit
We all seem to think that because something doesn't work for us anymore it doesn't work for anyone else ...
Look around, there will always be someone who makes money doing something different to you. Just because you can't figure it out, doesn't mean its dead.
If that were the case, tgp's would have been long gone because I can't for the life of me figure them out .....
Porn isn't dead - it is just a business model so diluted that it is hard to see profit. We all got drunk and stupid on 80 and 90% profit margins, and everyone and their cousin came to town to join in the sick little party. All those guests emptied out the bar and took the proft margin with them.
Too many choices for not enough new clients.
