eatapeach, that all depends on your definition of 'plenty' ... I agree with you to an extent, but I've seen just *how much* was made during the gold rush ...
I think *less* money is being spent on porn these days, and there's 1000's (maybe tens of thousands?) more webmasters to share it with ...
If you were around in the days of 'build it and they will come AND pay' then its hard to be satisfied with making 1/100th of the amount while doing more work - even if you or I say its 'plenty' ...
Pushpills, as always, you miss the point. go straight to exit console and do not pass go.

But..Cj...you have to admit....it's still better than McDonalds!

I wish I could find this pic I saw a while ago ... it was a tshirt and it said something like 'fries are done'!
I never got to work at mcdonalds Jim so I wouldn't know ... my parents refused to let me wash dishes in someone else's kitchen for $7 an hour when they couldn't get staff to do it for $20

i imagine a lot of the perception "porn is dead" is based on comparing the past to the present. i didn't make it to the game early enough, but i still made it.
i think it was maybe too easy before, in the sense that just by having a website you could make money. now you actually have to apply yourself and sell and provide value for the customers. the days of the average webmaster making money by pushing the generic porn sites with generic content are coming to a close.
for the webmaster who takes the time to provide a special product and market it as such will find that there is an enormous number of people who will trade their money for your product. find ways to create income from things that previously were expenses. they want to give you their money so let them.
it's hardly my place to preach to the oprano crowd, so i'll shut up now.
While they aren't exactly new, I see a lot of review sites popping up and we're loving the traffic from them. They will probably never grow to the size of TGP's, but these sub-1:100 ratios are nice to look at and the retention from them so far has been amazing. They don't spin the counters, but they fill the bank account just fine.
so it seems the board members are divided on many ways ....
Those that made millions in 98/99/00 are bored to tears by porn
Those that made thousands are still kicking it
Those that made millions are moving more towards nonadult
Those that made thousands are still kicking it
Those that made millions really don't care a fuck about the adult industry.
Those that made thousands love it and in the main would be involveds anyway for free.

you know the old saying "do what you like for a living and you'll never work a day in your life" ?
maybe some of the richest among us have forgotten what it's like to get up every morning and go to a job you barely tolerate so you can pay the bills.
i'm no longer in that position but i remember it quite vividly. my worst day as an adult webmaster is better than my best day in any other job. the best part is the days just keep getting better. i feel like i'm getting over on the world by being paid to have a fucking ball.
and i'm not a mathematician, but you add enough thousands together and soon enough you have millions.
Porn is not dead and will never be
But paid porn is in a coma for the moment.
because there is too much free porn everywhere, lots of free tubes sites with shitload of content....
that's why we developed Debutantes.TV package : we provide porn because everyone wants to see porn, but we also provide non porn high quality content (videos, street fights, pc games, software, etc)
Are you looking for what to promote or looking for what there is a want/need for and then selling that ?
What's going to be the product to promote/sell if interest rates rise? If the US hits a recession again? If oil prices rise again? (I'm looking for easy fear sales)
What is the new tech everyone will be on?
What do people need, more importantly what do people want?
Patent business doesn't look too bad
I certainly don't have the answer but agree
Porn is dead (if not it's certainly on life support) and boring
Soo, Here we stand, Sir,
Pretty much exactly where your predicted statement stand 4 years later. "Are you psychic or somethin'?"...
Is anyone feeling sales dwindling due to the American oil recession yet?
U.S elections are approaching and the cost of living in many states are on such an increase with the price of fuel going over many American standards of living.
Are your Internet sales feeling any of effects from this quoted U.S. American recession yet?
Are your sales "including re billers" Dropping? Staying steady? or Increasing?
Business rises and falls with the ability of the general public to pay for it. In that respect, porn isn't any different from movies, travel, restaurants, bars, and about 1000 other things that are discretionary spending rather than manditory / required spending (basic rent / heat / food deals).
However, porn is also at an additional cross roads, where things like tubes, torrents, and other forms of P2P style distribution have taken much of the content and put it into the wild, free as the birds. Very few programs / content companies seem willing to take steps with Google and other search engines to block these sites out (even though Google will gladly remove links to stolen content). As a result, porn has also suffered greatly from current product going stale at a much faster rate.
Finally, there is the use of porn as the "free" teaser to upsell people to dating sites, cam sites, and in many cases just to push viruses and rootkits onto end user's machines. The value of porn in the public eye I think is dropping pretty rapidly, and the guys laughing their way to the bank are guys like Legendary Liar and his group that basically profitted off of every possible method to abuse porn content to push their products.
The upsides?
A declining economy puts more girls (and guys) in the position to be willing to do porn for money. It will help to prime the pumps of new content, which hopefully should move things along again.
H.264 or whatever it is flash video is fucking awesome, delivering what could be a full screen TV resolution for many end users... which leads to the potential of people using TV to view videos from websites. The PPV video model is truly still in it's infancy as far as I can see.
As for Nick, honestly he wasn't psychic, just bored of what he was doing and trying to self justify getting out the door before it got slammed on his fingers.

Re: PORN IS DEAD!
When I was in the video business, I prayed to the cylon Gods for a strike, layoff, or failure of the local economy.
The more it happened.....the more porn I rented.
Idles hands and all..........
Ditto, but neither of us are sitting on his hands resting on past accomplishments.
And why is that Toby?
How much accomplishment should an amatuer webmaster show in there time on-line with investment & hard work be evaluated in todays Internet market?
Fess up , the money is not there anymore and it pretty much bores us ALL to tears.
I'm just sitting round trying shit , waiting for the next big thing...
Feel free to discuss....
;-))
Waiting never accomplishes anything! Speak for yourself about being bored to tears...Sales have been way down but I am glad in a way..I have a hope that it will weed out some of the competition. It is time for a change in the industry and all of you guys and gals that are tired and bored. I thank you! It gives the younger generation a chance to move up and show what we can do!

You keep looking for quantative and definitive answers for questions that do not have them.
On thing you should have figured out by now is that there is no set formula for success in this biz. You simply have to put it out there. See what works for you. Repeat and build upon those that do, drop those that don't.
If you're not comfortable with that, then don't give up your day job.

Tell me something man...?
What did the past 10 years of upcoming webmaster/programmer throw out into this vast internet thats revolutionist the industry or even the internet?
Nobodies risked nothing when all they do is repeat the same game plan over and over again.
Ya got balls accusing me of seeking quantitative or definitive,
when thats all that you webmasters have happening for themsels on-line for the past 10 years now.
Webmasters Of Adult Industry trade business/traffic in a security blanket of marketing thats already been proven to work.

Yea......ahhh.....not all of us "lack."
Or, perhaps you weren't indicating all of "You fuckers?"
It gets confusing with words like "You," that are printed the same in 1,2, and 3rd person usage. Your context isn't clear.
(psst: By the way, you did mean to spell out "Innovation," right? Not "Innovtion?" 'Cause it was a really cool way to do that...)

I hate using text to communicate thoughts, I believe allot of what people try to say is lost without the sound they generate with what they say.
I also should stop posting when I'm drinking, Cuz when I return the next day to see what I wrote, I don't even understand have the time what I was attempting to express.
The Zinf is like cool-aid here.
