Why you are at it why not help me with my XP probelms.

When I go to save a picture, right click on it, XP seems to be out
of memory and will only allow me to save it as a bitmap, not as a
gif or jpeg ??? Any ideas ??

If you want more problems I have them but let's take baby steps
and work on only a few at a time !

Enforcer i've been getting those Virtual Memory Low messages. I think i have tracked down the culprit. Babenet sends out porn spam, sometimes i click on it cuz i want to see what they're up to. Each time i do this i wind up with this dialer thingy(not sure it's a dialer cuz i refuse to click on it) installed on my computer and sitting in my system tray. Then i start getting the low memory warnings and my computer really starts acting weird, like it's caught in quicksand. When i get rid of this little program things go back to normal. Maybe you should check your system for little programs/adware that's been accumulating.

Billy i don't know why this happens but it happens to everybody.

The solution is to delete your Temporary Internet Files. Then shut IE down and start it up again, no more BMP when you try to save an image.

Tools------->Internet Options --------> "Temporary Internet Files" --> Delete Files

and if that doesn't work as a last resort

go to the dos prompt and type 'format c:'

And while your at the Temporary Internet Files, change the "Amount of Disk Space Used" to 10 mb. It's default is some huge number based on the size of your disk and that just slows things down.

I've never had the virtual memory low message, but many times I can't save a jpg file - it ends up as a jpe file and no matter what I do, I can't change it into a jpg file. I've started just using sponsor banners that are in gif format

I'm going to try clearing out my temp. internet files and rebooting.

Now, can anyone tell me WHY THE HELL I can't keep my files in "detail" veiw all the time? I even bought the Dummies book and it doesn't tell me how to do it globally. And even if I change them manually, damn if they aren't back to "tiles" view next time I try to look at them.

The only thing I like about XP is that it doesn't crash 10 times a day like 98 did.

Yeah.. I should probably add some more memory i guess. But I do believe i've used up only about 54% of my memory so far.

TE - if you have the drivespace available, I'd suggest you make your "Virtual memory" bigger - my pc at home has a 60 gig HD - no way I'd ever come close to filling it - so I upped my virtual memory to a gig! 1024MB to be precise - and my XP box (with 512megs of physical rams) FLIES now! It takes only 15 seconds from poweron to boot! FAST!
