I have a medium sized and profitable niche tgp and I was thinking of adding a messageboard to create a community feeling.

the site now really is profitable, mostly bookmarkers, so i dont want to do anything to mess up my formula, but if I created a board it might trigger the community to grow.

pros:
- low maintence.
- build a community.
- People never leave because they make friends
- could create more ad revenue after a while

cons:
- could become a password trading community.
- stress on my server (I only have 1 dedicated now)
- babysitting

any thoughts?

A board for surfers is stupid. People visit porn sites because they want free porn. They're using one hand only to surf, so they won't even be able to touch the keyboard (which means they can't sign up for the board).

It's just a stupid idea. Forget it.

I've seen a bunch of these popping up lately. The owners are even teaching their surfers how to hotlink other people and how to iframe other galleries and shit.

As soon as I can find some autodownload scripts they're being redirected to a dialer/popup hell. Right now they just get tubgirl.

It depends on the site. We have them in our members areas but our sites also give people a chance to network. They are community sites. ON a TPG I'd worry about trading and picture sharing/copyrights.

agreed, I have seen amateur sites that thrive with pic swapping between surfers on their messageboards. I have seen a freesite w/messageboard go to a full blown paysite with moderate to high fiscal success. But I have also seen chats and messageboards become ugly crypts. It is really niche specific, some are much more open to comminuty while others just wanna jerk off and be gone.

Since we're talking about a niche-specific TGP here, I'll suppose there is a "limited" number of people that's into what you offer. In that case, it *could* be a good idea to keep a community - small groups tend to want to stick together. I've seen communities inside some paysites members areas that were actually successful. Still, I can't say it would work on TGPs for all the reasons you guys already listed.

However, I came across this posted on another board:

Now Call-Kelly is a big TGP as far as I know and they got a forum that's crowded with people talking and having fun. So what do you think about it? Is it possible to have an active board/community on a TGP or that's just an exception?
