How Many Credit Card Processors Have you Gone Thru?

For those of you that are using 3rd party credit card processors you might want to pay attention.

Prior to june 30, 2007, anyone processing credit card payments online
must be compliant with the Visa Cardholder Information Security
Program (CISP). It is based on the PCI data security standards.

Here is a list of those processors that are compliant. Is your processor there?

CCbill and Paycom are both there and seem to have been for a long time.

There are a few others that seem to be "missing"...

Is your processor there? If not you have to ask yourself what will they do June 30th? Is it possibile that they will take my money and run?

Could explain the current zeal to "earn your business" now and bolt later with your money and userbase. Gone gone gone forever. And what will they do with all those email addresses and credit card numbers?

From what I can see there arent any. At least according to that list.
There are several out there looking to earn your business...which always reminded me of a used car salesman.

A lot of people are complaining that they havent been paid by myvirtualcard too.

Im always suspecious of any comapny that has a dozen or so shell companies all over the globe.

At least we know where we can find CCBill and Paycom.

To gain any kind of trust or respect for a billing company, you need to know the management. If you don't know the owners, don't process with them, its as simple as that. The Paycom/CCBill owners have put themselves out there. I use 3 billing companies, Paycom, CCBill, and a rather new company for all my foreign billing (where MC and Visa are a lot less important). I was skeptical of the new company at first, but I met the owners, and over time they've earned my respect.

If you're talking iPSP where you do not have to have your own merchant account, IMO the big two are the only games in town.

I wouldn't trust anyone else no matter how desperate times get and how hard they want to "earn your business" with any significant traffic until they've been around at least a year doing iPSP. And even then I'd ease 'em in slowly trusting 'em more over time and as they gain stability.

Takes a lot of cash, a lot of IT expertise and perhaps most importantly damned good banking relationships and enough savvy to maintain them. You cant just buy your way into the IPSP game at this point.

I find it interesting that alot of the guys who require you to bring your own merchant account are also missing from the list.

If I had my own merchant account and was using one of those guys, I'd have a plan B in my back pocket.

What about Verotel? In the beginning they got heat, but since then seem to have cleaned up their act. Anyone have an opinion?

The rules seem to be a bit different in the EU.

What I find amusing are those that arent in compliance and accusing us of having an agenda.

As Jace says... yes there is an agenda. We are trying to do business and make sure we dont get ripped off.

This list is directly off of Visa's website. Nothing any of us have cooked up.

Heres another log for the fire.

If your a doubting Thomas... call Visa yourself and get an idea of whats involed both from a technology standpoint as well as a financial standpoint.

Ask them what are the chances of a processor being compliant starting from scratch now.

Ask them what chances that processor stands if they dont own their own data center.

Get an idea of how much net and physical security is required to be compliant.

Finally ask them on the average ... what this process might cost a processor.

Then ask yourself. Do you REALLY want someone that is not on that list handling your transactions?

Chances are they wont be around come June.

So in a nutshell Gonzo what are the PCI data security standards?

Anyone who is surprised by all of this is just stupid. We’ve slowly watched this process for years. I agree with Gonzo that anyone starting now probably won’t be around. I tired getting processing for our phone sex lines and some adult products & it was impossible. I’ve been in business many moons, good credit, blah blah and no way…well maybe after jumping through a shit load of hoops.

I’ve been with CCBILL since they started. I’m not going anywhere. I just wish they would bill for other stuff.

I did try to set up an account with them on adult billing with no luck. Support was bad.

I am still trying to find a processor for video clips. I sell clips, audio, etc. one at a time and can't find a processor. I'm using nite flirt which a pain in the ass.

I think CCBill processes for clips4sale. Have you tried them?

If they do its something new they are doing because they don't do cart type sales. If the did ticket or single sales that would be great. I did a test on something and I made 60.00 in a few days off selling one damn clip rather then a few days access to a whole site.

About two years ago do you remember me ranting about community type sites and customers wanting to play for play rather then subscription? I compared it to the BBS days where you had to have so many credit/points to buy files?

Thats' exactly the direction this is heading and amateurs producing tons of content. At least in niches anyhow. I want to build a huge mega system where everyone sells there own stuff and its just one big fetish playground.
