I do not remember the exact day I got into the adult business. I remember getting a cashier's check back in early 1996 to put up a banner. I think this is the first time I actually got paid.

I was looking at my older domains, the oldest one is registered 04-09-96 though I had sites up before that were off of my Netcom dialup account and my local ISP Acadiacom.

So I guess I am celebrating my 7th year in the adult internet business.

Started in my moms house while still in lawschool on a Pentium I 90 Mhz with 32 megs of RAM ( I was rocking) and a 3 pass color scanner which I bought on my Discover card. ( it would take 10 minutes to scan one photo!!)

How times have changed....

Serge we "met" through e-mail in 96 sometime I am sure....

My first site was XXX Reviews. I entered at the time of the rising "you need to buy your content, not steal it" atmosphere. Everyone was trying to educate newbies not to scan playboy content and put it on your site. I listened and started a review site because I couldn't afford to buy content yet and also because I thought it would be a good way to meet webmasters. I was right about that. I remember JB and JoeE asking me for a site review.

I had a $50/month host. Serge gave me free hosting for my third freesite.

My first sponsors were CyberErotica @ 2.5 cents/click [?] and ... Amateur Hardcore @ 2 cents per click [?]

Everyone thought it was a big deal when CE rose to 3 cents per click. They had a picture of 3 pennies on their website.

My first day was aug 31 1998

first day of broadcast on a live site with my first girl

didnt have enough money for advertising then for girls (my entire 1500.00 budget went to the computer).
So i printed up fliers and put them on telephone poles around the county fair.
Borrowed a video camera from a buddy
started uploading on a 56k modem LOL

Did my first hardcore show 3 days later.

god bless the internet

July 1997 - I was out of work and Mark Tiarra a friend for several years before built a free site for me and sent me out on a link trading quest.

I made $ 200 the first week and decided this was the business for me.

Probably the first person I met - Outside of friends from before I was in the business was Serge, along With Meatman, Dragonking and DJ at the birth of the Condom Project. It was also the night I nearly saw all of them get killed when a guy ran a red light doing at minumum 80 and drove right between the 2 limos.

Cloud 9 Entertainment.com
Record created on 07-11-1997

I've told the story about 500 times (which is 498 too many except for Edd and Mutt who have a Claudia thing he he he)

First met Serge by pissing with him on Ynot as a newbie idiot in 1997 or 1998 - then had the pleasure to meet Serge in person at the 1998 Seacasus Cybernet Expo Show, I think that was at the end of May

First met MikeAI, Billy and crew at IA2000 January 1998 I think

Just about everyone who was in the business was at that show and met including the possum flash eating XXXPhoto and the where is he now poster kid Brett Wright

Decided to treat surfers as "prey" instead of customers.

Xpics offered me exclusive.FM and Dean advised me to tell them to go forth and multiply.FM and Dean tutored me. yadayada Serge yadada Scotty yadayada CONDOM (betcha you don't remeber what those letters mean)then Serge bet push or sammi that he could create a megaclickbroker when he retired yadadada ........

Sometime in the beginning of 1996 I was posting sites to PK that I had hosted on AOL and compuserve, every time I got a listing they pulled the plug on my account. I was pissed. I didnt even have adverts on the sites, I got off watching the counter go up 20 notches on every reload... I teamed up with BoBX, he had a server, we put my ideas and his programming together and got started.... My first adverts was Hadhazy's Amateur Hardcore then FM's program... I made $40 the first week and was stoked. I was a poor US Marine and was arguing over the $20 fee for the Internet with my wife at the time....

If I knew then what I knew now, jesus.... I'd give anything for those fruitful days back once again....

Watching Serge piss with everyone was great too =)

late 96- early 97 with the web design and furniture business... didn't do badly but realized in 99 that it was easier to sell porn online than sofas lol...

Thanks to that devil @ilynx and Tommy I had people nice enough to pick up the phone and scream at me that sites shouldn't be pretty, I wasn't making the surfer click and that without those clicks I couldn't make sales...

I'll never forget Tommy showing me one set of his Maxcash stats about halfway into the sales period. I wised up pretty quick and started trying to decipher just what that NY accent was saying at the top of his lungs

I started in the adult biz back in 1993 being the "right hand man" for the owner of one of the largest 900 providers. Ed Kinsley started the first internet site that I was aware of and our rooms in Canada provided the models for his cam. That was 1995?

When the feds arrived, I left there and R_n, who had been one of our customers, offered me a job doing the customer service for CE. This was November 1996. I also sifted pictures pulled from newsgroups for the guy that started Mr. Cash (who's an old friend of mine from WAY back).

In July 1997 I bought my first domain (had to look it up ), southernsluts.com I can't find the original stuff for it, but Sharky did my header for me and Sammi was one of the first people I traded links with. And of course, when Serge did his "link" experiment I linked with Natasha and Masha, or whatever their names were

I stopped working for CE around the summer of 1998, did some sales work for Mr. Cash for a bit (I was Candy Graham if anyone remembers), and then just did my freesites.

I fondly remember the days when you could get a listing in AltaVista in a few minutes, ditto with Yahoo, and a listing in DMOZ ended up in AOL and brought in $$$$ [sigh] The memories.

I started in 1997, my company sent me to a conference and I learned how to do HTML in about an hour. I came home and started a golf site on geocities that got about 20 hits a month. After surfing around and seeing how many hit's adult sites were getting I decided to try that. My first adult site was hosted on porncity and it was all "borrowed" content. I had 2 sponsers whose names escape me now since they no longer exist but one was per click and the other was a progressive signup program. I couldn't believe it the day a check for $2000+ showed up, I hauled ass to the bank to deposit it just to make sure it would clear. (Those were the days) My site ended up in the top ten at xxxcounter for a long time until I got some emails from content providers that were more than a little upset with me borrowing their content. That's when I finally learned content wasn't "public domain". Since then I've done about anything you can think of, tgp, tgp2, link lists, se's, email, etc. Moving into paysites now, hopefully it will work out, I don't want to go back to a day job ever again.

Ah, the good old days...

My first site went up in March of 1997. I played the TGP's back when it wasn't so popular and learned how to make some money from it. Then I hit the Yahoo motherload with some good keyword loaded domains. I had vowed never to work for anyone again, but when I met SweetT in May of 1999 we really hit it off and I couldn't pass up the opportunity. If I had it to do all over again I would have hit the Yahoo motherload a lot sooner, but I would still be here. I have never worked for a better company.

My most memorable moment though, had to be when I was on the phone with my accountant. I had my prior years tax return on my desk (from when I worked in the cabinet shop) and sitting next to it was a bank deposit. I laughed my ass off when I noticed the deposit was bigger than last year's gross income. hahaha

Man, has it really been six years already? Whoa...

Mid 97 I was working for an isp as a web designer then in April 98 started working for the general at Intergal as a web designer
5th anniversary in porn this month!

launched purve in july 98, met serge in jan 99 at peter lugers (sp?) steak restaurant in new york with terry from tropix hosting and greg, went to the pure hardcore office in jersey where dave referred to me continually as the secretary/girlfriend ... then went straight to the january show at the monte carlo, met webfather and a few others.

i used to read ynot every day, and posted occasionally.

most of the industry went over my head for the first year.

Now I think about the day where i made the decision to work for the general instead of for another company that had offered me a position setting up the backends and designing of real estate websites and think 'thank god i chose the porn' ;-))))

Since we are all tieing Serge to starting... I remember reading Serge moved down to Boca. I emailed him asking if I could attend that big meeting of players in Boca. At that time, I had a fledgling CJ and didn't think I qualified. Well, the party never came through, but Serge said, "Let's have dinner".

My dog pissed on his carpert, and the rest is history!

Does hocking scanned playboy pics on a dialup BBS count as online adult biz? If so, that puts me back into the 80's. I can remember being dazzled by the way Miss February looked in a grey scale Macpaint format. Before that we were limited to printing the girlies out on the printer using nothing but ASCII characters and then getting way back from the printout at which time all of those characters would make out the shape of a nude babe!

Had a day job that put me on the web VERY early, vintage 1993 when Mosaic was the only game in town and pretty much the only way to get on the web was bring in your own T-1 or frame and run your own servers. My oldest domain has a creation date of 3/24/1993.

Dabbled with putting naked pics on the net for a couple of years using it mostly to feed back to subscriptions on the BBS. In the early days the porn action wasn't on the web, most people had shell accounts via companies like Netcom that they used for email and newsgroups.

FM popped my advertising cherry with FastCash sometime around late 96/early 97. Things took off from there.

First adult trade show would've been InternetExpo/Vegas in 97 or 98, I forget which. It was the one held in the Monte Carlo back when the show still had a heavy 900# influence. I remember that show was the one where the booths were split between two locations in the hotel and a lot of people failed to even notice that there were two halls.

Geez...I'm feeling really old now.

Flesh Vick, not flash...lol... and stop flippin guys shit about Claudia, she gives great nakid backrubs PLUS I hear tell she blew Uncle Sam... shall I post a picture??

Fall of 96 was in college and started building sites for hotels and motels in Branson; then whipped out a site that Beth was kind enough to list at the top of PK's listings (AAAAGoodtime 4 A Goodtime)... hehehe

Surfed around whois alot calling folks outta the blue. Hooked up with Bangwang that way in early 97 (and Vick too later that year). Started working at YNOT doing the webmaster resources and folding thousands of fucking tshirts at the conventions... anyone else have ones from the first shows? ...lol

First time I saw Serge was in an elevator in Orlando in fall of 97. One look at him and I jokingly thought that's GOT to be Serge...lol... He might be taking folks out for wine and steaks now, but I'll never forget that IHOP breakfast he treated me to in Daytona... That mean old Russian took and showed me the ocean for the first time (and them red speedos) and it's one of my best memories from shows... lol

Nick it took you time to get nerve to post? What about 10 minutes?

Colin what was the year you got started?
I used to think it was '96 but Serge insists it is '97 and I am trying to backdate myself. <_<

I finished school in Dec, '95. Move to Florida in April, '96. Taught high-school for a while. It makes sense it might have been early 1997.

In network theory, Serge is what is known as a hub. If you mapped out all the connections between people, Serge would be surrounded by a thicket of connections. I don't think that's an accident. Serge is the Mel Blanc of internet porn.

It was early 1997 when I started my first site and was shut down by my ISP within two days after Persiankitty listed me. I guess many of us started out that way!

A few weeks later we (myself + two partners) each got one domain and started developing a site to see where it would get us. I was the only one with some success, so eventually we parted ways and I continued by myself.

My first sponsor was CE. There was also some other sponsor, I remember the site had a "medical theme" with nurses (sexclinic or something like that?).

Things started to take off when I became a YNOT member, and moved to my own server with AboveNet.

I have never had lunch or dinner with Serge, although I did meet him once (for a few minutes).

Greetings,

Art

Probably ;-]

Interesting enough, Kevin Bacon isn't especially unusual in his number of connections to other actors. It's just historical accident that his name is married to the "Six Degrees" game.

I think Mel Blanc is listed in more movies than anyone else.

Porn stars are notoriously high on the most-connected list for actors. Ron Jeremy is very high.

FDR had 22,000 names in his appointment book.

I first got online in '95...started webmastering (mainstream) in '96; and put up my first porn site (Amazin' Asians) in late '97. Back then, you could only register a domain through Network Solutions and only for 2 years...

Started in Aug/99..... met Serge in June/2006 while I was visiting a retirement home in Boca.

As a gesture of good faith, I offer to spring for a room for CJ and Slavik at the next convention.

Oh, domains at $70 for two years. And weren't they $100 briefly because of a government tax on them?

We had to buy thousands for search engines. It changed the SE game when prices were dropped to $10-$15 and people were able to start buying 1000 domains for $10,000.
