Hey..
My mom has to go to the Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center for treatment, the center is located at 1275 York Avenue. New York, New York. 10021. She is going to be staying for a week at a time and has to go back and forth 5 or 6 times. Does anybody know of any near by hotels that would be good for extended stays in that area, if so please shoot me an email, I want to find a place that is not to expensive but someplace that will make her stay comfortable. Thanks in advance. Billy billy@hirise.com |

Billy,
Memorial Sloan-Kettering has an arrangement for accommodations with Helmsley Medical Tower, within two blocks of the Cancer Center. Call 1-800-HM-TOWER or (212) 472-8400 for rate information. Should no rooms be available at the Helmsley Medical Tower, the Barbizon Hotel, about a fifteen minute walk from Sloan-Kettering offers standard rooms. Call 1-800-223-1020 for more information. I first want to thank those who took the time to respond
Serge_Oprano Peaches voodooman Vick Thanks Guys it's people like you who give me the faith to belive that this time they will be able to knock the cancer out of her, my first child is going to be born in the next week or two and I really want the baby to have a healthy grandmother. I know over the past few years I have never asked for anything and still I want to do what I can to make my mom more comfortable so I guess I am now asking, if you know anytihng tell me so I can see if I get someting hooked up. Serge I know she has to be in for the first visit on May 6 but I have not made any flights as of yet, I will let you know. THANKS for the offer, I don't know if my mom has ever been picked up in a limo : ) Leaving LA tomm and heading back home to New Orleans, hope to see some of yall at the parties next week, I will be cooking to keep my mind off of all the other stuff going on, so don;'t worry the food will still be GREAT !!! |

I also want to thank everyone for their well wishes. Billy's mom has been so good to me... Since the moment I moved to New Orleans, she has taken me in and treated me like her daughter. She has been more of a mom to me than my own, she is a very special lady.
I have heard a lot of great things about Sloan-Kettering, and hope that they are able to help her. I know she is sad that she may have to be in NY when our baby is born, but I would rather her miss the birth and be here for all his/her birthdays! I look forward to seeing everyone that is coming down next week... Thank you again... Last edited by Angel at Apr 25 2003, 02:52 AM |

I wish your mother the best, and hope that the doctors and treatments do knock out the cancer. Congrats on the upcoming birth of your son/daughter as well. I believe that the mind is a very powerful thing, and my advice would be to do whatever you can to keep your mother in a positive frame of mind, and as difficult as it may be, dont let her get down and depressed. |

Hi Billy,
Sorry to hear that your mom is going through this right now. From what I read online this hospital in NY is top notch, I am sure she will be feeling better in no time. She's in our prayers. Todd

Billy, my mom is in the hospital as well right now with gall bladder trouble. She had a malignant brain tumor 7 years ago and was given 6 months to live as a prognosis. From what I've read she's now the longest living survivor from glioblastoma multiforma (her tumor) in history. I'm a firm believer that having a strong mind (and my mother proved that to me) is better than any drug they can give you. I'm sure if your mom is like you she will kick cancers ass and take names.

This is so true ... and nothing gives motivation to fight more than expecting a grandchild! Billy, Look forward to that moment where your mom first holds your new baby. My thoughts are with you and your family. Be strong but lean on those around you when you need it - that's what we are all here for. |
