Unfortunately I spent most of this trip working in my hotel room (thank God for the high speed internet access), and I missed a few very nice dinner invitations with people I really wanted to spend time with. I did manage to get to the ARS party, and I always like that (along with Gameworks) because it is low key and a guaranteed nice time. It was funny, I remember going up to Marc the day after and thanking him for a great party. I felt like such a dork, but that is truly how I felt... Good conversation with good people is what I enjoy.
As for all the craziness, you can certainly avoid all that and get things done while still enjoying the show.
Webmaster cruise long ago was very nice. Maybe an invitation only affair.
Curaco is nice and very well put on, but too many people go there for the drugs and brothels. I recall they had buses to get around on last year, and people were smoking weed on them openly.
The past 2 shows that I've attended I went to one 'sponsored' party, usually on the first day. After that, I just met with clients, friends and associates, had small dinners and then went out later to private clubs, etc. I hate being stuck in a crowd full of people that I don't know and or can't stand to begin with .... especially when the guy/girl ratio is about 1000:1

The wild party atmosphere will not go away... there is a lot of the younger crowd in this business, and there concept of a convention is 'wild and crazy'.. so be it... I was young once.. I think....
I have no problem with what people choose to do on their own, god knows I've done enough abusive things to my mind and body over the year, and would by hypocricial of me to condem others for doing the same...
The thing is.. A LOT of people want and atmosphere thats quieter, and more condusive with catching up with friends, exchanging ideas, and cutting deals... frankly, there are a lot of the 'older crowd' that just flat out will not deal with people indulging in the craziness.... maybe to the detrement of both groups, but its a simple fact.

I also attended this exact party and was front row for that piss drinking display, that was just trashy and nasty, but some of these girls were actualy really classy, and were there just to represent there companies in a tasteful manner, but the piss drinker, that would make me label for the most part the trip as trashy, but to each there own.

I'm with you guys - I like it quieter and if there's partying going on, a small group is way better than a hundred people (most of whom you don't know). Like 8-10 folks get together and party, do the club rounds, whatever. It still lets you have fun but you're also in a more 'protected' atomosphere where if you're female you'll know someone's got your back, but also if you make an ass of yourself it's less likely to be plastered all over the biz boards.
The only time I like to be with a hundred folks I don't know is when we're all out on a dance floor and the lights are going crazy, the bass is pounding in your chest, and the only thing you can think about is the music

I don't expect to get "business" done at a loud party anymore than I expect to get drunk, fuck the waitress and spill my drinks all over at a nice dinner or formal party........
A convention hotel is used to throwing people out during shows/expos, so one or two such situations in the course of a show will only be a big deal if they are looking for a reason to avoid rescheduling a group.
They same cannot be said for the kind of moronic behavior like dropping shit onto a skylight.
I am looking forward to finding the old foggies group in January - my drinking/drugging days are behind me, but I can get pretty wild long about the 2nd double espresso ...

the last show i attended, (august last year) I had a breakfast meeting all 3 mornings and was in bed by 2am every night (and home by 4 :P )
very tame show, i don't remember attending any 'parties', but we had lots of nice 'dinner parties' at serge's - that's my ideal show - good food, good wine (or soda water) and family for good company.

Seems we're getting more people who wanna go to the conventions to get high on their own supply. They aren't there for business, they're there to party and for the occasional cheap thrill. I chuckle everytime I see pics from convention sex shows or photoshoots and you see guys stacked 4 deep holding their cameras over each other trying to get that shot of the action.
It's kinda sad that they're in this industry and are that desperate to get a pic of some nekkid ass....

We had help with the wine. The ACHDebit guys were there as well. One of the best things I ever learned from Serge was to sit in the lobby. Everyone comes through eventually and if you have booze they are likely to stop and talk to you.
I think everyone needs to learn to be a bit more conscious of where they are. And that goes both ways.
Based on the ads for the parties, I think it should be no surprise to find nudity and even sex in some of them. Now pissing is a new one, not my scene I woulda been out there. But that's really what everyone should do, exercise the same freedoms we hope users do, if you dont like it, dont look at it or leave.
But again, discretion, know where you are. If you're in rented space with controlled access, you can get wild. If in a more public location, like the beach, use your head. Now drugs are another story, do what you want in your room, but keep it off the premises at the parties, especially anything stronger than weed.
And one of my alltime pet peeves is people who wear their "industry" clothes outside with the normals, to the mall or dinner or whatever. We may perceive ourselves as business people who just happened to have sexy products. Make no mistake about the rest of the world though, they view us as nasty pornographers who they think might chases their children down the streets with a dildo in one hand and an industrial sized bottle of wet lube in the other.

Peeing content has been phased out by most of the larger paysites. ARS got rid of their pee site over a year ago and I honestly can't think of another "big" affiliate program that offers it.
That said, I made the remark several times that I have ZERO problem with it. But the fact is that I watched someone pee on the carpet of a boat that was leased by their host for the party. In looking at the pictures, it seems she WAS aiming for the cup, but as Serge pointed out, we women ain't so great at aiming. When "visiting' someone (which is how I look at it when you're at a party given by someone else), I try to adhere to what they consider good taste. My brother and SIL don't drink. Therefore I would NEVER drink at one of their parties. I daresay Lensman and CE wouldn't want you to come to their homes and pee on their carpet - or even in a cup or beer bottle - so IMHO, it shouldn't be done when they host a party either. I never saw that party advertised as a "content grabbing" party, which it seems it was treated as by some.
Did anyone else but me miss the fact that there was NO hospitality room this time? This type of incident is why. The attendees seem to have little respect for the obligations and liability of the sponsors. Many check their brains at the door or ' just don't give a damn.
I hope hospitality rooms are not a total thing of the past, because that is many times where some real business is done - but, I can't fault sponsors for not wanting to do it anymore.

The reasons why I am not attending shows is because of a few reasons:
1. I think the shows are too expensive.
