life in the US is like a bad episode of Jerry Springer sometimes. who cares what some teacher did? Jesus people. maybe he was wrong, maybe he wasn't. it has nothing to do with any of us and certainly should not be on national news.

When and if I raise a newborn to 13, I will be long gone from this board, so you're out of luck on that one.

I find sometimes people in this industry want to be OVERPROTECTIVE of their kids on this subject because they see the dregs of it every day. It's hard NOT to want to shut it all out when you see some of the garbage out there and accessible to kids. But you're right, I think Louisiana is WAYYY behind on things.. .Gay partnerships are a part of life and society now, and it's certainly not going to change. The sooner everyone accepts that, the better, especially for kids who won't understand why they're in trouble for things like talking about their mothers being gay.
|
Oh I agree on being overprotective with the kids... I should have been more clear. I meant being closed minded themselves.
It's true... the more I see the more I want to shield them. Fortunately being IN this business has helped me to be more educated on how to protect them.
Funny you guys are mentioning GTA right now... we are currently having this argument in our house with our 14 year old. My brother (aren't uncles great??) sent him a copy. He's only been playing it 2 days and I'm ready to throw it in the fireplace. :grrr: :grrr: :grrr:

HAHAHAHA.....exactly!
X - It's a country about nothing. Nothing ever happens.
Y - That sounds pretty boring; who would live there?
Z - Well, sometimes something could happen.
X - No! NOTHING ever happens!

Why would you ask that (and what do you mean by "at least") and what does it have to do with anything discussed at this point?

I don't understand your assumption that all the mothers around had their children unplanned.. For all the kids unplanned and born out of wedlock, a lot are born to marriages and planned for you do realize. The glass is not always half empty.

Peaches, I didn't assume anything, I asked her a question and by her avoiding the answer in her post I then made the assumption.
She can tell me I am wrong if she pleases, I'm curious to know but she seems to not want to answer.
Get it? knock knock anybody home? This is turning into textual mish mosh at this point. I hate having to explain things like this. Please try harder to keep up!
Lady Mischief! I didn't say anything about all mother having kids unplanned!
See Serge, THIS is why I don't bother much with this shit nowdays. Gee whiz.

Bah don't be silly.. But as far as I knew it was always kind of rude to grill people about that. As far as I'm concerned, in the end, it doesn't matter if a child was planned or unplanned, if they are loved, well taken care of, well taught and have everything they need to have.
My first child was unplanned, only becase I was told I would NEVER have children, tried for years with my first husband and never succeeded. Doesn't mean he isn't wanted

The glass not always being half empty is a social problem that will be corrected when the revolution occurs. You will be given a glass by the state and the water in it will be poured according to your need.
Who decides your need? Not YOU, of course....it will be the local magistrate's half-brother's cousin.
Have faith in your fellow man to know how much water you need! Paradise is near!

But people around here assume that, too.

Kinda like a person who DOESNT smoke cigarettes recommending you should never smoke.

Thanks Fletch. Being a parent, especially a single parent is the hardest job in the world. There is so much you have to do, it absolutely drains you by the end of the day. And I only have one. How people do it when they have 4, 5, 6 and more kids I can't imagine. My sister has 6 and she usually sounds like a zombie when I talk to her.
|
No doubt man.
Coming from a single mom household with 3 boys, I can have nothing but sympathy on some.
The parents I dont like are the high and mighty, 'you dont know shit until you been in my shoes ones,' while trying to say what GOOD parents they are.
Today on Oprah: Moms Who Spend More Time Online Than With heir Kids
I bet it would be ahit!
How many moms would tune in?

I don't believe I said that, but I agree that you can NEVER truly know what parenthood is like, living with a child raising them day in and day out, being responsible for everything.. Potty training, sickness, temper tantrums, all that, until they actually HAVE children. It's like trying to imagine what it's like to live with a life-threatening illness or disease. You can NEVER truly say you know what it's like or can understand the experience unless you have it.
Doesn't mean people without kids can't have opinions, however no one opinion can possibly fit every parental situation. Every child, every family is different. It's easy to judge something based on an opinion, but unless you are fully aware of the situation at hand, that opinion means about as much as the piss I took this morning. Catch my meaning?
|
I disagree. A person living with the parents would know exactly what it is to be a parent in the terms you are describing and the manner in which it has been discussed so far. Furthermore, it is logical that they would have had parents themselves, and got an idea about parenting just from being a child. Discounting their opinions on the subject is irrational.
Wherein lies the difference is the emotional attachment to your child. Attempting to quantify THAT part of parenting, and relating THAT issue in the parent/child relationship, you could make a more reasonable statement that the person doesn't know what they are talking about because they have had no real life experience.

You don't have to be a parent to state an opinion on whether or not someone is a good parent or whether or not a parent did something the correct way.
By your own logic, any discussions of national politics are now meaningless since no one here has been President, Governor, or Senator.
I'm gonna start tossing that line out now. "You were never President! You don't know!"
