Why would I hate women? This business is full of mysogenists, but I am not one of them. I dislike "professionals" who don't treat women as such. I dislike women who show us their tits for attention when I am more interested in their acumen or witty prose. Show your tits to the surfer to convert them. If any of these "professionals" wanna see your tits, they should drop by your place of business and join. Anyone trying to get free pics is just another unconverted surfer. I don't think it's the self-promotion itself that's the problem so much. It's the nature of the self-promotion and then abandoning the boards once some amophous goal has been acheived - it's kinda cheap and manipulative. I think that's the main complaint here.

If a sponsor or sponsor rep comes on to the board, it is reasonable to expect them to explain and show their product to their potential salesforce, whether that product be paysites, hardgoods, software, whatever.

So, ladies, please keep showing what you have to offer. If you want it sold properly, we, your potential salesforce, must know clearly what the product is, what benefits are associated with the product and what shortfalls that our customers might encounter along the way are.

After all, we wouldn't want to rip off our customers (the surfers), now would we??

Well, punkin, the short version is that all of the points made in the comment I responded to would be directed at a girl running her own site and performing in some way or another - be it model or other. There are those of us who do other things in the industry, enjoy the industry overall, and like what we do... But that doesn't mean that it makes sense for a guy to ask to see my tits before he'll work with me on projects or deals, since it's not relevant to the work at hand (*ahem* as it were...).

No, I caught all of that, but it also bears mentioning that, on occassion, a woman comes into the boards to learn something from the people who've been around longer and have a solid knowledge base.

Now, no one's asked me to show my tits here, but I've also not come on the board trying to buy or sell anything at all. I'm here to learn, and I thought it was an interesting discussion - if someone wants to know about what I do, they can click the link in my sig line, or send me a PM.

I was merely stating that it can be a tough business to stay in and board can be a tough place to hang if you're a woman. But as I also pointed out to Trisha - it seems to me that it's not the self-promotion that bugs people as much (since we're all in sales in some way or another), it's the buggering off when a goal has been reached.
