I just find it amusing that people have all the time in the world to get into pissing matches on boards that are made to help us do business and work together! Isn't that something a 12 year old would do....I mean I'm not taking any sides, quite frankly I don't give a flying fuck...If I don't like a board I don't go there. how would you classify someone that only comes to the board to announce when they get a new job, or to join in to try to be coy and piss on a board, but actually is not involved daily on that board ?

c.) good business

what if they only post like once every 90 days or so ? are they still an active member ?

None of the above I don't classify my members. Anyone and everyone is welcome and to be honest I'm so busy with other things that I don't even think about stuff like that! Xnations has a long way before it's big and bad! In the mean time I'm just enjoying life!

all newbies are not all bad. in fact I have been banned here twice, and told I would fail on many many occassions.

some people do not have the tenacity to stay and I feel/ have felt for a long time that it should cange and a place for them is what the industry needs.

I now have a say in that place and can choose to make it so.

( kinda like a congressman that says the other side sucks, but once he gets in office fails to do what his principles were that made him want to go in the first place) I will not bow to what was, or what has been. I think new days are what will be successful in the future. I believe that new people and new products will take us there . If I am wrong then time will tell. ( I was not wrong about a lot so far, but I have been wrong about a lot so far too)

420 calendar for example LOL ( in the end I made some money from it though, but probably cost myself some opportunity in the begining while fighting to defend it ) was that a wise battle ? not sure .

They for different reasons of their own do not come here .

I would LOVE to see them back here, and imagine if you had just those four, and a crop of say 10 newbies that wanted to learn the business and had a good positive attitude, no matter what they did or did not know about the ways of old in the business.

I would trade everyone on this board for that line up ( think of it as a sports team, I would make that trade all day long , everyday)

If a person is not business saavy enough to see the value in that statment, then they are in the wrong spot now .

even with people like these mentioned that are no longer here prano still survived, so I am not at all worried about anyone that may leave cause they do not like the direction we intend to take Oprano. IT WILL SURVIVE and always has to this point .

Just to make a point. I never got paid by Oprano until I became a mod and I did have duties besides helping to keep the board going by posting.

I posted just as much crap prior to getting a pay check as I did after I started receiving it.

Being paid to mod and being paid to post are two different things.

Gonzo. I have no problems with the direction of the board. I have no problems with you and I appreciate the thanks.

I think someone, you, joe or whoever is seeing something that isn't there. I have not seen anyone complain about the direction of the board.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it all. But I dont think anyone has ever said all the old crew needs to hit the road. What I have read into things is that the old dogs may need to learn a few new tricks or at least be tolerant of new patrons.

We have a lot of people who hang out here who have been here from day one, some of them are out or nearly out of the business. But they still hang out because they are part of the community. I see absolutely nothing wrong with that, many of them are funny and intillegent and contribute a lot to the board.

I think what everyone needs to be careful of though is where business threads are concerned not to make it a hostile environment for newbies or people who are doing business in new ways.

A beat down for anyone new is almost a tradition, but it has also stifled new blood. Very few have passed the initiation and survived to earn a bit of respect and hang around in recent years. Joe is one, Pushpills is another.

The thing is if someone comes thru and starts asking questions about TGPs, the shave on traffic trading scripts, etc, the correct answer isn't to jump on 'em and tell 'em why giving away tons of free porn are the reason the business is no longer as good as it was in 1998.

You have to adapt or die.

Noone attacked shemp. Two, out of many questioned the TGP model, while admitting it was here to stay.

BTW, You announced Shemp arriving in June 04, Shemp had already been here back in March and February and had been welcomed quite warmly by all he encountered.

I have read the thread many times because there is lots of good info there on how to make money off of TGPs, some by shemp, some by others.

I have the thread bookmarked in my business folder and I have never understood what Shemp took wrong from that thread.

I think this is missing some back story info...

GonZo in particular had been after Shemp to post for nearly a year, ever since he came to Atlanta. Told him we'd love to have him, Oprano really was missing that TGP persepctive and a lot of the players over here were finally testing the TGP waters (which was true at that time).

Now go re-read the thread with that back info.

Did he feel welcomed and that people here were receptive to hearing what he might have to say and bring to the table regarding TGP's? No, it felt more like an attack on his whole business plan. And happened right out of the gate.

His reaction was he didn't need that shit and he bolted. And hasn't had much use for GonZo ever since...

Interesting side impact there was GonZo was brokering some traffic trade deals for TGPs being run by some of the regulars here via Shemp and they were getting some fine traffic from it. Some of the same ones in that thread. That traffic went away...

I see I see said the blind man. So business deals got canned.

But, the possibillity is that it isn't the people who expressed their opinion's fault. The thread was initially about the Hun banning paycounters and such. Shemp came in on page 2 and expressed his opinion.

That the rest of the group did not necessarilly agree with him (but actually, if you read the thread, many did) is not the groups fault.

Not to be too sarcastic, becuse I have heard many really great things about Shemp, but did he expect everybody to go "oh you are so smart" or something. He was talking to people who have been in business as long as he was. They were not disrespectful or really harsh (definitely not harsh by webmaster board standards).

It is not the groups fault that shemp left and business blew off. It is not Gonzo's fault that shemp left and business blew off. It sounds to me an awful lot like it's Shemp's fault that he left and business blew off.

(Damn, i am glad I didn't post in that thread, it ain't my fault, that one is for certain)

And that is ancient history for the most part but it probably ought to be looked at for what it really is before decisions are made with that being any part of the underlying base of the decision.
