What a kewl thread
March 1, '99 for me. I had just quit a job working for the credit bureau as a skip tracer. I was tired of hunting down people to pay their bills...lol. I was a total chat junkie from '95 'til then. I also had my very own personal geocities site too, made with Netscape Composer. I had no idea there was actual CODE behind the pages I made...hahaha. I had a 'dancer' friend who asked me to put up a site for her. So, I started researching and after a couple of weeks, realized I could make far more money making my own sites, than a site for her...haha. I started on a freehost too. Then I finally splurged and bought a few domains and a $25 a month host. I still wasn't making a whole lot of money, but then things turned around when I sold my first domain for $2k. I was estatic!! I took the money and invested it into more domains, content etc etc. Best thing I ever did. Worked with snoops for RookieClass for 2 years and then landed my current position with CQ2 and I've never looked back. As for Serge, I didn't meet him until 2001 I believe. Snoops introduced us at one of the shows. But my meeting with his beautiful wife ladylaw was pretty memorable for me. I was at a show in Vancouver. I was at the hotel wandering around and saw her sitting at a piano in the corner of a room, playing. I had no idea who she was. I walked over and we started talking and then we played a simple duet together...haha. Low and behold, she is now Serge's wife. I look back now and see how much people's lives have changed in the time I've been doing this. From marriages to having babies and even death. This biz really isn't as big as it may seem. |

Celebrating 3 years in June. I kinda feel out of place ;p
you dont really need 6 degrees for Serge, most people would only need 1 or 2 ;p Last edited by DrGuile at Apr 17 2003, 11:49 AM

Readers Digest Version:
--Oct 1 1997 Bought First Domain --Oct 10 1997 Launched first site (with this fantastic idea that it would be a free site until we got people hooked on it then we would turn it into a pay site) --Oct 15 1997 Asked PK for a link to my free site --Oct 20 1997 Asked PK again for a link to my free site --Oct 25 1997 Begged PK for a link to my free site --Oct 30 1997 Got a call from my host (Mindspring) that we were pushing 100 times our agreed upon rate and the invoice for the FIRST MONTH was going to be $5,000. PK listed us!!! WOOPEEEEE! --Oct 30 1997 (15 minutes later) Turned on the new Join Pages for the members area!!! (we're in the money....we're in the money --Oct 30 1997 (15 minutes later) Check Stats..... 20 Signups!! --Oct 30 1997 (15 minutes later) PK terminated us because we changed to a pay site and she never replied to an email since. Now what? Been trying to answer that question ever since --T (should give props to MikeAI, though....when things went bust with PK I met Mike and he listed us on AmateurIndex and I swear to you that from that point forward it was like taking candy from a baby.....well, until the great fall of 2002 Last edited by SweetT at Apr 17 2003, 02:42 PM |

I think it was June 2000...I was in LA with RB and Fold to do some golfing. We were riding down the interstate in a RENTAL convertible when a HUGE, BLACK, 4X4 SUBURBAN with tinted windows and big Hella Lights and one of those push grills on the front comes rolling up behind us and tailgating us and honking and flashing ALL the lights. I was scared as shit. RB, in typical Brooklyn fashion, begins to cuss and holler and flip birds out the roof at this idiot who is threatening our lives. We came to a stop light at the next exit and the truck slides to stop directly to our left. I duck so that RB will got shot instead of me....when J$tyle$ sticks his head out the window and says "Sup?" I almost cried Figure the mathematical probablilty of people from THREE separate states driving in a FOURTH state in a RENTAL car and having someone from a FIFTH state roll up on them on the INTERSTATE. (Keep in mind there was no tradeshow, no nothing....we were out there golfing and Jonathon was either interviewing or had just started with CE (driving Ron's Suburban). --T |
