I'm a "french manicure" girl myself... although once in awhile I'll do a color on the toes or a simple design... if I dont really feel like putting up a fight that day.

The place I go to the girls do not speak english... or they just pretend not to just so they can force you to put a bunch of gawd awful crap on your nails you dont really want there so they can extra charge.

I sit down in the chair and say to them. Look... I'll tip you very well... just dont you dare try and put anything tacky on my nails. I'm not 16 anymore!

It's similar to the French except the nail tip isn't painted as stark white and the nail bed color is more towards the pink side. When done right it looks like you have completely natural, long nails with clear polish on them.
Next time you get your nails done, ask if they do them. It's not new. I've been getting mine done that way since 1998.
