The one I was on could have been quite useful had there not be a tweaker substituted at th last mnute that wanted to answer every question with his vast experience of 10 months.

Ahhhh yes....panels....

I've been going to shows since 1998. My first one was back when the precursor to Internext was at the Monte Carlo in vegas. I go to a couple a year, the January Vegas show is the only one I usually go to without fail.

During all that time, how many panels have I sat thru? I can count 'em on one hand. Yet, I almost always accomplish my goals for every show.

The problems with panels...

1) Selection of topics.

2) Finding someone who actually has something valuable to contribute to the topic to sit on the panel.

3) Getting them to open up and be forthcoming.

No one who has a really cool new idea and is making bank with it is going to sit on a panel and introduce everyone else to it. Again, this business strip mines. If you have 3-4 sites kicking ass with some new fangled innovation, as soon as the word gets out, there'll be so many of them no one can make more than beer money off of the concept.

I do my business at a corner table somewhere near the bar.

The seminar was about community sites and pretty much everything he said was pure bullshit, but he really stepped in it when I said that I didn't agree with community sites censoring words like GFY does and he went off on how they could get sued if they don't censor words like pedophile.

You have to remember AVN publishes a magazine and hosts those Internext shows. Their insight into the inner workings of this business is limited from that respect.

Weve all seen how people coming into the net side of this business are either easily swayed or confused by sig whores and people who pass themselves off as marketing geniuses that know nothing.

Spinning tunes poolside at the Hard Rock hardly qualifies anyone for marketing in this business. Those that are successful dont promote the clients they take money from but continue to promote themselves.

Jace I know youve been asked to sit on a blogging panel before.

If anyone is interested in being on a panel I suggest that you contact AVNonline and make your case. I for one wouldnt mind attending more of these from a listeners side.

Keep in mind though that people will expect your expert advice for free.

well, at the time I just didn't like avn very much, and while that stands true for the most part, I now look at the joke the panels are and know there is NO WAY I would ever get up there and do it

i would however be game for a private workshop for newbies or something like that, "building traffic with blogs", I finally feel confident in my abilities to be able to handle something like that

but I won't be put on the chopping block in a "panel" setting, i see more people coming back from internext laughing at them more than anything

Oh they solicit for panel speakers for each show, but that only gives them a list to pick from. How do they pick from the list once they have it? Do you think they make their choices randomly by putting the names in a hat, or do you think they actually know everyone that submits to speak and choose the ones that are most qualified, or do you think that they use some other method to pick, like which company spends the most advertising with them each year?

You can't pick good speakers by running a popularity contest.

I have rarely gotten pissed off from forums in the past few years, you have to really cross lines with me.....you can ask my girl, I am the most laid back person in the world, i don't get pissed about ANYTHING in real life, why would the boards be any different

there isn't any problem that can't be handled, and there is no point in getting upset, whatever happens is going to happen, hate and negativity won't solve it
