USA! USA! USA!

Now.. that said.. what matters is the medal rounds. Kinda like New England Patriots a few years ago. Who gives a shit that they beat the Giants in the final regular season game as they lost to them in the Super Bowl when it REALLY mattered.

Looks to me like Canada just got some extra practice time in and it is paying off big time... they took Russia apart piece by piece. Ovechkin had to pretend his finger was hurt just to have an excuse to distance himself from the situation... I see pee wee players do the same thing...

Oh, right fellas......
You think that win...after the original loss, somehow makes it for you guys?

Well, hey, congratulations on your overtime, lucky shot.

We'll take home the silver on that one....along with our other great big bag of medals....

Here is what the Russians think.....

Quote:
Doesn’t it feel great to slam the door behind you as you walk out, stick up the middle finger using the palm of the left hand on the upper right forearm for extra leverage and blow a giant raspberry? That is exactly how it feels as Russia leaves Vancouver after disappointing Games with a question, was the Canadian ice hockey team on drugs?
BREAKING NEWS
Mammoth Earthquake Strikes Chile
Helena Bonham Carter, Domestic Partner for Tim Burton
More...

The middle finger goes to the shockingly dangerous organization of the Games which cost the life of a Georgian luger right at the outset on day 1 (Nodar Kumaritashvili lost his life because the track was unfit, and indeed the corner where he crashed was elevated the following day) and the giant raspberry goes to the appalling, abominable and biased judging of events which cost Russia medal after medal.

The middle finger and the giant raspberry go to the Canadian ice hockey team. Were they on drugs the day they beat Russia so overwhelmingly? These days, and since the USSR’s 8-1 thrashing of Canada in the early 80s, Canada-Russia ice hockey games are always very closely fought events and there has not been such a monumental difference between the two sides. Very strange, the more so since the same Team Canada (whatever the hell that is supposed to mean) put in an extremely lacklustre performance against lowly Slovakia and was lucky to reach Sunday’s final. And for anyone who is about to be shocked by the question, one supposes it is OK to make cheap and gratuitous references to Russians and doping, but when the ball rolls back home it hurts. Right?

We will never know, will we? We will never know, because the officials at Vancouver predictably did not mete out to the Canadians the shockingly humiliating treatment given to the Russian skier Natalya Korosteleva, asked to produce a urine sample during the break between the quarter-and semi-finals of her event. Had she complied, she would not have had time to enter the semis. And such was the hounding of the Russian athletes that there are rumours many refused to eat for fear their food would be laced with steroids.

The more shocking it was due to the insolence shown by Olympic officials already installed in Canada prior to the Games, insinuating that the Russian athletes are synonymous with doping. The fact of the matter is, however, that there has not been one single doping incident involving a Russian athlete in Vancouver.

Well, it's easy to tell which one it is......just look for the largest, and heaviest bag....
It has nearly half as many more medals.

But hey, for a country like yours, you did just fine.
We're proud to have you on our continent.

So, if we looked at it another way, North America Dominated the medals, followed by the Germans.

They are just setting it up for next time. The winter olympics is in Russia in 4 years, and I suspect they will "own the podium" at that point.

Canada's medal totals are pretty impressive when you consider that the entire country has a population slightly less than the state of California.

Absolutely not! I was saying the same thing. Did you see Ovechkin pretending like his finger was hurt after he caught that slow wobble of a puck that bounced up? He was like a pee wee that didn't want to be blamed for his team's lameness.

How about that guy that awarded himself "platinum"...

These are from the same stock of people that held the dirty Nazi back at Stalingrad? I thought toughness was a particularly Russian trait... but now I guess that has been replaced by whining little bitchiness. ;-)

And for the record... I think the americans blew their mojo when they stopped playing high and mighty hockey and stooped to some dirty dealings with late hits, high sticks and the like. As a result, Crosby and company won through moral authority... and an excellent wrist shot. imo...

I'm still trying to figure out how "curling" ranks as an Olympic sport.

My sport isn't in the Winter Olympics. Fencing is in the summer Olympics.

Prolly not. If there is one thing I do know, its Russians. They could do it if they were still well off and a major power to spend like the Chinese. But since the Soviet Union imploded they aren't willing to spend the resources and nor is there the national will. My opinion is look to the Chinese.

"Russian athletes, trainers and sport officials blamed bad luck, lousy weather, equipment failure, echoes of previous doping scandals, judges' bias and other factors for its dismal showing. "Team Russia has already won gold for the multiple excuses of its losses," a popular Moscow tabloid scoffed.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev called for the resignation of the nation's top Olympic officials Monday after the country's worst performance in a Winter Olympics in nearly a hundred years.

How, exactly, does fencing qualify. Right up there with ball room dancing and beach volleyball.

I laughed my head off when Ovechkin pulled that stunt. Typical Russian. He was soooooo neutralized and soooooo embarrassed. I guess his designer jean sales will drop slightly.

yeah, it was especially hilarious when the camera did a super zoom down onto his hands when the gloves came off... almost looked like he couldn't remember which hand was supposed to be hurt.
