Originally posted by Ambergirl@Jan 26 2003, 02:26 PM you really should ask them to rethink having Rob Van Winkle as lead...that's the ONLY problem I see with it.
"In numbers I trust" and Rob just
has returned from his SOLD OUT show in Phily.
Heqdvd is not popular on Oprano but he packs the house
;-))
In my book of values,
the musician who can pack a concert hall and hated by everyone
is better than the one who is loved by everyone but can't fill the empty stadium
as long as he doesn't make public statements that he is more popular than Christ....I don't really care
;-))
Sounds like Rob Van Winkle will draw headlines... hopefully the others will bring the credibility.. now just imagine if Ice Ice Baby turns out to be more media savy and a better singer than everyone expects
Serge, the reaction you see about VanillaIce is because since he first came out with his really famous song 'Ice Ice Baby' the general concensus is that people and the media have labeled him a 'one hit wonder' type of guy and he is not taken very seriously as a true 'musician'. There's a certain stigma attached to his name that is hard to ignore. It will be hard, even now I think for some people in the music industry and the general audience to overlook his past and give him a 'second chance' so to speak.
Whereas Dan, Nicko and Dave Jr. are highly accomplished musicians that have risen to the top of their respective fields and are household names among rock fans and critics alike.
Hopefully they will balance each other out and we can use his past as a vehicle to create some controversy or buzz in the industry. I think that the more people you speak to about this you're going to find similar reactions when his name is mentioned ...
BUT with a band behind him as hard and as tight as the demo I heard last night, it would be near impossible for him to fail, the music really was a breath of fresh air compared to so much of the mass packaged CRAP that you see on MTV, etc..

Its not like Vanilla Ice hasn't already tried to turn a new leaf
he's been touring with his hardcore band for years
played a nice small gig in Manchester last year
I had my people in my living room
Originally posted by RRRED@Jan 26 2003, 07:13 PM Better let KC in on this. He has his own drums
Yes, please let them know that if they need any help with the Bongo's or need assistance in locating a skillful bongo player, I'll happily provide guidance.
the vanilla ice angle is gonna be a tough one, that's probably going to be make or break
but they'll probalby kick him out before then LOL
i saw a feature on him on mtv ... one of those 1 hour 'where are they now' documentary's and he has been doing some really cool stuff since but hasn't been able to get past the ice ice baby days
i worked in a bar while i went to college, and the band there (the happy butts!) had a version of ice ice baby they did which was hilarious ... i will see how much i remember
alright stop, masturbate and listen
happy butts are back with our brand new invention
underwear. grabs a hold of me tightly
chokes my testes daily and nightly
will it ever stop yo, i don't know
if i take my pants off, i might blow
to the extreme you know i'm so full of bullshit
ripped off a queen song and now i'm a big hit
blah blah
if there was a problem, you i'll solve it
baby sit on my dick and revolve on it
blah blah
quick to the point to the point no faking,
forget the cheese and suck my bacon
rolling. home to my slut
she's a bitch with a needle
girlies on stand by waiting just to blow my ...
etc ;-)
serge, here's the real words so you can peruse his musical genius ;-)))

Originally posted by LadyLaw@Jan 26 2003, 09:59 AM Hello everyone!
Yes, it's true, Heavy Metal Band Management.....another service Oprano now provides! LOL This will be alot of work, but what a wonderful opportunity....very exciting.
I always wondered how all those years of being force-fed my son's music would pay off!
Congrats S & S,
This sounds like something you'll be good at. Will you have to travel much for this or is it strickly behind the scenes?

Holy fuck, nice score!
Nicko is one of my favorite drumers of all time
Dan Spitz is fucking aces too...
Umm, serge, need any music advisors? LOl
Don't forget that Anthraz was also one of the "founding fathers" of thrash metal..fuck, I remember the Clash Of The Titans tour...the three biggest thrash metal acts at the time: Anthrax, Megadeth and Slayer (with a little band called Alice In Chains opening). Anthrax also helped usher in rap-metal and even teamed with Public Enemy.
They also penned the greatest moshpit tune of all time "Caught In A Mosh"
Also, I saw Rob Van Winkle in his hardcore band a few months ago and he was actually pretty damn good....I fucking hated "Ice Ice Baby" and his white boy rap shit, but his hardcore stuff is actually pretty good.
FWIW, I do have experience as a concert promoter as well as a a hasbeen/neverwas musician so have seen both sides of the business, you'll have a blast (especially once you get to start messing with riders) :)
Music marketing seems really difficult on hand and on the other much simplier. I don't know what's involved in management according to LL's job but if it's what I think it is, there's going to be some travel and a lot of head banging.
Years years ago I worked with music promoters to get air time in south florida. It was after the big controversy over large companies paying for air space. It's not illegal, or do they say. So instead of paying them you throw them parties, send them on trips.. lol- all free, of course!
Damn I haven't heard their music in many moons. I'll have to wait till I get home on my fast connection and check it out.
Do you have a CD at your house?

Anthrax...wow...we saw them in '87 when I was 8 months pregnant with my oldest. They were opening for Ozzy in San Diego. The baby never kicked so HARD as when Anthrax was on. I joked that it was because he didn't like them - but hub swore it was because our son was going to be a born drummer.
The kid is an excellent drummer today (at age 13) and his favorite genre? Heavy & thrash metal. All the neighborhood kids think he's weird (hip-hop is all they like) but he loves it.
Congrats! Hope to see these guys @ the PHB - tell D$ to keep his mitts off em! lol
I have several questions for you. I have a lot of connections in the music industry, and I was curious as to what your involvement will be exactly.
I spoke with some friends of mine in the business, and they were under the impression that with the people you are managing they will know more about it than anyone. Your job as a manager will be more in managing the professionals and making sure they do their job, than anything else.
There are several things that can make your life easier. They may or may not already have a booking agency. If they don't I can make some suggestions, and the guys in the band will also have their suggestions. They may or may not already have a PR Firm/Studio. This will also be important, they can handle the branding and publicity.
Have they already recorded an album? If not they will obviously need a recording studio. They probably already have one in mind, but I can make some suggestions here as well.
Do they already have a record deal with one of the major labels? I imagine they have already worked something out here too, but maybe not.
I also have friends who do poster/website/media/magazine design. This is usually something bands like to pick on their own and they often try different firms until they get one that fits. This is something I could help with right away. These guys have done design work for many bands out there and have a great portfolio.
Feel free to hit me up on icq if you want to discuss some of this further. New ventures like this are always exciting. I would love to be of assistance and I am confident I can call in some favors to help out. Although most of my exposure has been on the "Indy" (Independent Label) scene, I am sure the people I know can be of assistance.
What a score! I took recording arts management in school, all it is really is negotiating and babysitting, just like taking care of webmasters! rofl
I'm sure LL can keep Rob in line!
I loved Iron Maiden, Anthrax, Megadeath (hubba hubba) and I used to sing along with Ice Ice Baby, that boy could dance though! Get Rob some boxing lessons, he got his ass KICKED by Todd Bridges from
Different Strokes on Celeb Boxing?!
Here's to Lady Law being the next Sharon Osbourne!
Originally posted by LadyLaw@Jan 27 2003, 12:17 PM Sharon Osborne has my sympathies!! Let's just hope Serge doesn't get a zillion tats, grow his hair out, and start mumbling....
Susanne... lmao
First off - I can't ever picture Serge going to those extremes.
Second - I know you'd never let it happen!
It's been said and I totally agree - you two make a great team!
< note to self > Do not have turkish coffee at Serge's house < / end note>

The bass player from the band I once played in used to play with Joey Beladonna, the one-time vocalist of Anthrax. I used to be a huge fan of those guys.

Re: Ken Lawson Has Larry Flynt, D$ Has Rappers, Oprano
that was an interesting and educational thread. It reinforces what I have always thought. Don't jump in over your head in a business you know nothing about. A recipe for disaster, it is.
