Paul Martin was sworn in as Canada's 21st Prime Minister on Friday, promising an ambitious agenda that would focus on "bringing freshness and clarity" to Canada's place in the world, making the Government more accountable and mending strained relations with the United States.

He's much smarter than Jean.... and probably more crooked, which scares me a litle...
Jean was retarted but harmless (mostly)

Ugggh... politics...
Well... for some Canadian it might be a happy day, but for a lot of us, it's sad since we'll have no more clown to laugh at. Jean was really goofy so anything and everything was a good reason to laugh. But Paul Martin... Deputy of the part of the city where I live (for the past 30 years...), good friend with the local mob (sharing office in the same building), ex-minister of finance (while he owned most of his eastates, companies and placed most of his cash in the carribeans...) is far from being funny. He's also far from being one to trust... He starts his PM carreer with a lot more ennemies then Jean had in his whole life. The opposition already promised to put some light on anything that could discredit him like some actions he would still own in some foreign companies, some more tax free income he would be getting. That will be interesting to follow here. Pot... It's already legal if prescribed by a doctor in most of the provinces. Many people here do get it legally at the drugstore. But with Paul Martin I am pretty sure it will do a step backward! It's already started with Health Canada a few days ago putting more restrictions to the patients in need. Before it gets legal to just anybody, it will take many years. |

Jean Chretien was an excellent prime minister. The next best thing to Pierre Trudeau in the last 50 years.
Paul Martin will never be Jean Chretien. He will have to prove his worth in big ways. If not, watch for the Progressive Conservatives to storm back into power in a few years.
