Im trying ot figure out the best way to layout my portfolio etc ...
What do you guys like / dislike when veiwing portfolios .

I mean do you prefer a flash design that displays the works in a neat way , or something that just puts it there , for simple viewing ?

Im torn between a pretty cool slide show , or just a display ..

your opinions are valued

Thanks in advance .

For me, it's kind of like webmaster programs....leave the flash and the fancy stuff for others...just show me what I need..

So, for your design site...just display your work...offer a larger version so I can really see it...and, don't worry about the showy doo dads...

I look at site designs to see if they are marketable....I'm less impressed by the design site as I am with the designs themselves.

Hope that helps.

Flash is not necessary for portfolios. They should be easy to use. That's all.

here's an example of what I like (no spam)

bluedesignstudios.com/portfolio.php

Wildcard >>
Yeah thats something like I had before .. was wondering if I should go nuts this time ..but I have a desire to go really clean and focus on the work .
Was considering doing the entire site in a grayscale so my message and work is whats really on display , but not sure if that will scare some off.

Spam or not Bluedesigns does Grade A work

1) it should load pretty fast
2) it should look nice
3) you should have a portfolio online
4) you should have some prices online

doesn't really matter much more.
Don't do what I've done.

I agree. Fuck flash, just gets in the way. If you wanna show off flash skills, gimme an html option. Bad flash navigation will turn me away from any site very quickly. Dont get cute, make it straight forward to navigate.

All I'm looking for are samples, testimonials, pricing and contact info. No time for anything else.

Im working over time in order to get things going for christmas
They're pretty exciteded about christmas , nice to see them all old enough to understand it this year .

I think Im going to go with the cleaner design I did .
Just wasnt sure how clients would react .. something very different from my usual stuff , but a refreshing change .

Hi,

Well at webinc.com we keep the site design pretty simple. We want for webmasters to get to our huge portfolio real easy.

Some flash is cool though

I love the webinc design, the site itself is simple, yet they show off what they can do in their portfolio (where it counts)

make the site simple, but give the samples the fancy doodads.

i personally think the simpler the better - your offer sells the site to the webmasters. make it easy to sign up to your offer and easy to navigate.

my 2 cents

hmmmm......if my memory serves me right,
playgal was FAR from being simplistic...
http://web.archive.org/web/20000302062002/...ww.playgal.com/

classical example of
"Don't do what I do, do what I say"

was complex design of Playgal a money loser?
