Default AVI to MOV conversion help

So I bought Vegas video to process clips. I like it so far. I went to create a mov format of a clip and it prompts me to install Quicktime. I follow the link to Apple, download the file and try to install. Get a message that says the program is not 32bit and won't install ... strange. I also noticed that the file is supposed to be 20mb, but it's only 17.8mb after download from Apple. Yes, I tried to DL again, thinking I perhaps lost connection. Same thing happened. Full size not there and same message. I'm tired of messing with this. Any one have a trusty converter app they use for AVI to MOV? I have found several when searching, but would like to find something already used by others. Thanks for any feedback.

Quick Time is always a pain in the ass for me on the Mac or the PC. Ill look and see what I have on the desktop at home.

You're still going to need QT installed on your computer no matter what, I'm thinking, simply because converter programs use the QT codecs from Apple for their encoding.

I'm not sure why you're having a problem downloading...tell me a little about the box you're running there and maybe that will shed some light.

The box I was trying to use was an XP Media Center, AMD processor. 160 G HD.

But, I just finished getting Quicktime to install on my Vista box. Made my first mov file with Vegas. My workhorse XP crashed a couple of days ago and I'm still getting all of my programs set up to start video processing. Been using Pinnacle Studio, but now switching to Vegas. I had a program by Intervideo called Video2go that would make mp4 and H.264 conversions from AVI without the Apple stuff installed. Seems Corel bought them out and has now discontinued the program. That sucks. Now I need to pull the harddrive from my old XP and see if I can install it on another machine to get the old program ... or just upgrade my new Quicktime, I guess. Been a crappy week because of this ...

Thanks for the replies
