http://www.rootfest.net/squatters.html is pretty bad reading though, if it's true. Could just be a pissed off competitor bitching..

Inabon, it is good to see we can agree on something.

Bob Parons is a crybaby. The man sells domains at cost, and then upsells customers on every little option and makes it very inconvienent to transfer domains In my opinion, his business model copies the Join for Free porn websites.

Sig is in the process of drafting a full rebutal, I told him it is not worth the time - but Mr. Parsons had hired some big time lobbyists to try and get Congress to change things.

Reminds me of a booke I just read, How Capitalism Saved America : The Untold History of Our Country, from the Pilgrims to the Present by Thomas Dilorenzo

Extremely important to understand is his early distinction between what he calls "true capitalism" - some would call it "free market" or "laissez faire" capitalism - versus "state capitalism" or "mercantilism" in which governments intervene in the markets to protect (e.g., with high tariffs against foreign competitors or even with grants of monopoly, as NY State granted to Fulton's steamship company) and to favor certain businesses (e.g., with subsidies or restrictive laws and regulations). As he correctly emphasizes, there is not much free market capitalism remaining in the U.S. today. He makes the same distinction between "market" entrepreneurs, who are his heroes (e.g., James J. Hill, John D. Rockefeller, Cornelius Vanderbilt, Bill Gates ...), and "political" entrepreneurs (e.g., Leland Stanford, Jay Cooke, Edward Collins ...), who relied on government favors ("corporate welfare"), leading to corruption and sometimes bankruptcy, and who - together with the politicians who favored them - are his villains.
Some businesses cannot operate in the open market and must turn to the government to tilt the playing field towards them. I guess that what happens when you charge cost for a product and hope to upsell your customers on other services. Eveentually the Customers become savvy to this.

Did I miss something here? I see no rebuttal. I would think that would take all of five minutes. Was it deleted or was it never "crafted". I just see some Karl Rovesque spin going on. I actually would like to hear the other side of the story, not just an attack on a competitor's business. Excuse me if I missed the rebuttal, I apologise in advance. I am sure we would all like to hear the Directnic version of events. The numbers seem a bit damning to me, but you do need to hear both sides of any story to make an informed opinion.

that is wierd, but it also does just look like someone whining that they lost their domain...i mean, if I have a domain about to expire that I want to keep, I renew it before the date so it never goes into redemptionperiod, this guy actually let it go into redemptionperiod, and whether it was cut short or not, that was a stupid thing to do
