PD, some things we are not far off but some we have different views (and that's a good thing)
Did the government help fund my cell phone (you can name other things here)? Then why do they get a cut every month? But let's go beyond that....... Welfare is not cheap!! You can not hold me hostage by saying it's a lot cheaper that this or that alternative. It's like saying you/we are willing to be extorted and I can't be a party to that. Think about this PD, If myself and 20 other people with less monetarily than you (no matter how we got to that position) walked around outside your home for a day and said give us some of your food or we are going to tear down your house and take it, what would you do? (I know that's extreme and I'm stretching). That's how you have welfare sounding to me How can anyone accept pay (however little, and some for generations) for not working? I'm not talking entitlements for SS, true disabilities and so on. On the other side of that coin I do believe that most everyone should have the opportunity to work. Not a right but an opportunity Education (particularly upper education) should be available to everyone at reasonable prices - and that's what is cheaper than welfare and a far better solution. I still have problems with anyone stating we have to pay welfare or .......... I like the national sales taxes with certain items excluded such as staple food and single clothing items under $50 so the truly poor can get at least the bare necessities. With a national sales tax much of the so called underground income gets taxed (I'm aware of the other side of the coin, a new black market economy could start) Imagine (like your friend Lennon said) if we had to realize the cost of the war in Iraq with every purchase, every day Also a big fan of a balanced budget You know I am not a fan of a leveled playing field but a national sales tax would have those with more (disposable) income paying the larger share of the nation's taxes. Enrons and Exxon C.E.O's. and so on could be paying a more taxes with a national sales tax (Do you know our friends at Exxon have reported record profits in 2005 and if I recall correctly one of their C.E.O.'s pulled down a $28,000,000 bonus ) Pardon me, I'm a little tipsy but you can see where I'm going with this (besides to bed to sleep it off) |
