Some I save (very few), some I try to resell on Amazon, if it's a book a friend or relative will like, I give to them (not wrapped up as a gift or anything - they know it's "used"
) and if worse comes to worse, I donate them to the library.

I keep em and read many of them over again. Hell, I have just about every Dragonlance book ever written. I have a boatload of Piers Anthony books from when I was young. Every Terry Brooks Shanarra and Landover series novels. Have a bunch of Forgottn realms books, mostly the Drizzt Do'Urden series. All of Terry godkind's books. All of John Grisham and Patricia Cornwell's books except the latest each has put out. And a bunch of fiction books, biographies, and other stuff that I enjoyed reading and kept.

I put them on shelves or in boxes.
Annually, I go on a binge where I firmly resolve to get rid of a bunch of them. Dozens will come off the shelves. 2nd thoughts cause most of them to go back on the shelves. I give the remainder away to the library for their annual sale (this year I didn't change my mind about any of them in the car - I was so proud of myself), where I usually buy at least 2x what I've given away.

I used to do the bookstore trade store deal. Now I just use the library. It's right by my house and I make my picks online and they email me when they're ready for pick up. The only books I keep are cookbooks or classic books.

For my mental "junk food" I've gone through a number of phases. I got into fantasy for a long wihile (read all the Shannara books, the Thomas Covenent Unbeliever books), the Dragonriders of Pern, etc. Was into science fiction for a long time - my grandson now has a gateway computer box full of all kinds of stuff, including just about anything Allen Dean Foster ever wrote that wasn't Star Trek. Lately my junk food has been either True Crime (there's Ann Rule and everybody else) or detective novels (most recent "discovery" is Ed McBain; I "discovered" him 72 books into a series he started writing in the 50s, and about six weeks before he died).

I've been hooked on fantasy books since I was a kid. I also like reading political books as well. My most recent non-fiction book is The Fair Tax Book by Neil Boortz and congressmen John Linder. I wish everyone in the USA would read that one and press their congressional reps to support the proposal.

I fucking LOVE that author, he's brilliant! What I do with books once I've read them really depends on what type of book they are. If they're my school texts they get put back on my shelf & ignored but used as reference points later on down the road more often than not... if they're quality novels I keep them & re-read them. If they're cheap cheesy romance novels that I occasionally read for mindless entertainment then they end up given away to some other person once I'm done reading them

You can trade your books online at www.bookins.com. You get points for each one you send out, and then use those points to get books from other people. They start you out with 10 or so points.
I usually keep 'em. Have 5 7-foot tall bookcases in my library, and just bought two more 4-foot ones last Sunday. Going to get another one this weekend. |

Thanks for the pic, Colin! (Finally! A pic that turns me on!) I keep my books because I love rereading them. The ones I don't want to keep I donate to a facility in my little town that is a home for scizophrenics. I love donating there because this place gets *no* donations and the facial expressions on the workers are fun to see. Have to explain "yes, these are for your patients to read, you get to keep them, I'm *giving* them to you...no, I don't need a reciept that you're not even set up to give me...just take the books, sit down, breathe deeply and all will be well." (The time we did a total house clean and gathered up games, books, stuffed animals, magazines, etc., etc. and brought all the stuff in I swear we nearly put several of the attendants in the hospital, they were so shocked.) This place is full of people that society and family have labeled disposable, so we do what we can. Books that aren't suitable for them I sell on eBay. |

I remember sitting on the couch holding hands with my husband (I was in tears, his eyes were just glistening) as we went into major debt with the nice saleslady from Encyclopedia Britannica. We'd purchased a brand new, up-to-date set of encyclopedias for our children. It was one of the biggest events in our lives. (This was pre-internet.) I used to just touch them some days and pick a volume and open it at random at other days.
I had two growls. One was "look it up!" The other was "look it FUCKING UP!" (OK, three growls. "If you DON'T FUCKING LOOK IT UP, I'm going to grab a volume and beat you with it!!!!" They knew that was an empty threat, though. Mommy would *never* abuse a book like that.)

They tend to have very lively book club meetings. Only 5 people attend but there are as many as 40 differing opinions.

Anyone has read/reads Clive Barker? (not the shorts, but the novels like Imajica, Great and Secret Show, Everville, etc?)

I read every book at least twice. The first time I read it, I'm in such a hurry to get to the end and find out what happens I miss the nuances, so I go back and read it again almost straight away.
Most of my books I keep and re-read and re-read. I'm on my 3rd copy of 'The Thorn Birds'...it's my all time favourite book, and I read it at least once a year. |

We had a local independent bookstore near here until this summer - unusual in a town of 20,000 - and I bought what has to be my 6th copy of the Lord of the Rings trilogy during their close-out sale. They were out of the Sherlock Holmes I wanted to grab - it probably would have been the 8th copy of the complete works I've owned since Jr. High School.
I have a lot more friends and children who borrow books than I do who return them.

Light in your head and dead on your feet Well another crazy day You'll drink the night away And forget about everything This city desert makes you feel so cold. It's got so many people but it's got no soul And it's taken you so long To find out you were wrong When you thought it held everything You used to think that it was so easy You used to say that it was so easy But you're tryin' You're tryin' now Another year and then you'll be happy Just one more year and then you'll be happy But you're cryin' You're cryin' now Way down the street there's a light in his place He opens the door he's got that look on his face And he asks you where you've been You tell him who you've seen And you talk about anything He's got this dream about buyin' some land He's gonna give up the booze and the one night stands And then he'll settle down in some quiet little town And forget about everything But you know he'll always keep movin' You know he's never gonna stop movin Cause he's rollin' He's the rollin' stone And when you wake up it's a new mornin' The sun is shinin' it's a new mornin' You're goin' You're goin' on. |

I re read the ones I love. Most paperbacks I bring to the book trader, but hardcovers go in the bookcase.
Before I got my first computer I read 3-4 books per week, Now it's about 1. My tastes range. I love reading biographies, mysteries, legal dramas, humor, politics. My guilty pleasure is Jackie Collins. Her books are such fun trash. |
