of Marco Island which is where my parent's store is, so Defiant and I are off to go do hurricane prep. The store is right on the beach street and the storm surge should hit at the same time as high tide so we could be in for a mess.

Dennis the menace...
Stay safe Red, though I think Dennis will take a northwest turn and head more to the Texas/Louisiana coast line. It has been pretty damn ~hot~, 100 plus weather in Texas and Louisiana and herricanes get their strength from heat, or should I say warm waters, and though it will enter the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico, I think it could stear away from the Florida coast line. In any case prepare yourself. Electricty and water are the first two thing to go, so stock up on candles, batteries/flash lights and plenty of drinking water. If you think you might be in danger get out...pronto! |

Thanks guys.
at last report the storm is 100 miles off the coast, but the size of the storm will send tropical storm force winds 150-160 miles out. Since we're only about 6 miles inland we'll probably be hit with 40-60MPH winds. Not too bad, but we might lose power. We've got water, flashlights and enough food that doesn't have to be cooked, so we'll be fine. I lived in this area for 7 years and my folks have been here for 20, so we know the routine. |
