XBiz (By Matt O'Conner)
Wednesday, June 8, 2005

"Leaders from such right-wing lobbying groups as Morality in Media, Concerned Women for America and the Family Research Council — organizations that for years have all been thorns in the side of the adult entertainment industry — are speaking out against .XXX."

...

“This idea has been kicked around for several years, and the only possible winners are in the porn industry,” CWA head Jan LaRue said. “The porn site operators have the best of both worlds. They can double their pleasure, double their fun by locating on this domain and remain on any of the other domains on which they’re registered.”

...

FRC senior legal council Patrick Trueman agreed. “The new domain would do more harm than good. They [adult webmasters] will populate the .XXX domain and perhaps double the number of porn sites available on the web,” Trueman said.

Morality in Media President Robert Peters, meanwhile, said he fears that the use of .XXX will legitimize the adult web and end up providing adult sites with de facto protection from obscenity prosecutions.

...

FRC’s Trueman expanded on the notion by saying, “Creating a virtual red-light district may also discourage law enforcement from bringing obscenity cases on the notion that the problem is solved.”

they have a good point there.... .XXX will be bad for business, as "forbidden fruit" label will be taken off the product, and "forbidden fruits" always have better marketability

Oh my, that would be terrible...

instead of 10,384,395,289 porn sites there will be 20,768,790,578 porn sites...

There is no way I can visit them all in my life time ;-((((

That would take the fun out of democracy - ex. no more EU treaties would be rejected by the EU voters

Don't worry it will never happen because it has the same flaw as CDA...

Who determines what is porn and what is news and what is art?

Yeah, we came a long way from believing our body is beautiful and saw no shame in it, to hiding even the Statue of Justice, you all remember that don't you?
I don't think it's a trend. There have always been people who think nudity is shameful. In the Judeo-Christian tradition Adam and Eve are embarrassed because of their nudity. That tells us something. Surely there were 15th century Ashcrofts.

I have no idea what renaissance sculptors would have thought of being able to download
movies of guys fucking goats. Well, the Greek ones woulda been down with it, I imagine. And the French, of course.
