I have to admit that I certainly admired Tim McCarver a hell of a lot more when he was a Cardinal catcher than I do as an announcer. Of course, growing up in St. Louis, listening to Harry Cary and Jack Buck, you get kinda spoiled.
I was down in Boston in the mid 70s, watching a game in a bar - mentioned I was at Game 4 of the '67 World Series when Gibson beat them (one of the three he beat them that year). I don't think anybody there but the bartender talked to me after that. The Cardinals still have one more to go; the Yankees are about to be toast.
