it's still very good. i'm going to get into my film reviews (not just reviews) and teach you all a bit about actual "films" and you will appreciate good movies alot better.

I myself am somewhat of a film student, and am aspiring to date a columbia film student (I blew off our date tonight because my skin got kinda fucked up from some of the lotion i put on it and all the sun i got with the ttops off yesterday....tonights going to be spent with a bottle of aloe).

with that said, this IS a good movie and a good series I'm betting. tarentino, while somewhat of a bunco artist, is one of the top directors in the film business and not just today.

Steve, I was raised on European cinematography,
from the days when art matterted more than commercial success...

so...what would you wanna teach me about movies?
;-)))

you may start with Tarkovsky... and finish with Gaben

serge perhaps the film review/discussion/class session as I envision is should be somewhat of a joint venture.

nevertheless....you didn't give this particular film SOME of the credit that it deserves. and it does deserve credit. and also we should all know....something old doesn't necessarily make it the best and classic...because it is the new that has the financing knowledge technology and potential to be better.

Steve, I disagree....NONE of the living artists are classics.
;-))

Van Gogh and Modigliani died in poverty....30 mils for sunflowers weren't paid while Van Gogh was alive
;-)))

therefore...Tarentino is NOT classic..yet,
he is CONTEMPORARY.

does it contradict what you learned in the colege?

Except for Pulp Fiction, I've just never "gotten" Tarantino's flicks. Even some parts of PF had me dazed and confused.

I'm saying that something old DOESNT make it classic. Yes, ok, tarentino will have to wait awhile before he's "classic" but re-read that sentence of mine, I didn't mean to say that all that the best that is new is classic now, i was saying that the oldies aren't nessecarily classic.

and that quote, if thats pulp that you are talking about, that's not the exact quote at all, you should have google searched it first.

did I break your concentration????

any idiot can find quote on Google,
you gotta keep it in your heart, right or wrong,
in spirit
;-))

Sam L. Jackson: *Gunshot* Oh I'm sorry, did I break your concentration?

Sam L. Jackson: Shut the fuck up, fatman! This ain't none of your goddamn business!

Sam L. Jackson: I don't remeber asking you a goddamn thing!

Sam L. Jackson: Come on, Yolanda! What's Fonzie like?" "Cool.." What? "Cool." "Correctamundo! And that's what we're gonna be - We're gonna be cool.

Sam L. Jackson: Describe what Marcellus Wallace looks like!
Brett: What I..
Sam L. Jackson: Say what again. Say what again! I dare ya, I double dare ya, you motherfucker! Say what one more goddamn time.
Brett: He's black..
Sam L. Jackson: Go on!
Brett: He's bald!
Sam L. Jackson: Does he look like a bitch?
Brett: What?
Sam L. Jackson: *BLAM*
Brett: Aauuuh auh!
Sam L. Jackson: Does he look like a bitch?
Brett: Noo!
Sam L. Jackson: Then why are you trying to fuck him like a bitch, Brett?
Brett: I didn't..
Sam L. Jackson: Yes you did. Yes you did, Brett! You tried to fuck him and Marcellus Wallace don't like to get fucked by anybody else than Mrs. Wallace.

Sam L. Jackson: I don't wanna hear about no motherfucking ifs! All I wanna hear from your ass is: 'You ain't got no problem, Jules. I'm on the motherfucker. Go back in there, chill them niggers out and wait for the cavalry, which should be coming directly.'

Sam L. Jackson: My name is Pit, and your ass ain't talking your way out of this shit.

Sam L. Jackson: I wouldn't go so far to call the brother fat. I mean, he has a weight problem, what's the nigger gonna do, he's Samoan.

Sam L. Jackson: Please, continue. What's the matter? Oh, you were finished? Well, allow me to retort.

We rented Kill Bill a few nights ago and I was surprised that I liked it. I like Tarantinos other movies but I wasn't a big enough fan to see KB in the theater. I thought the ass kicking girls were fun and the score by RZA was great. I dont know anything about karate movies so Im sure some of the homages went over my head. It definitely doesnt have the genius dialogue of Pulp Fiction.

Serge, are you a Mamet fan?

I too watched it and was surprised that I liked it.

Like the curates egg it was good in parts.

More "interesting" was watching Tarantino interviewed by Conan O'Brien the other evening.

Tarantino is insane without a doubt.A genius ? I think remains to be seen.

I believe his behaviour causes problems getting his films insured.

I liked the movie, but in physical sense, not for it's lacking inner beauty.

I liked Kill Bill Volume 1, but I hate the fanboys who brag about how original Tarrantino is...I like him and hs movies, but they almost always contain nods, winks, homages, etc. to other films. My friends and I are going to play a drinking game this weekend. For every reference to another movie in Kill Bill Volume 1 to a movie that I have in my collection, we take a drink..we should be drunk about halfway through the movie ;-)

Serge, have you seen that movie "Russian Ark" yet? Damn good movie and gave me a huge appreciation for Russian history and art as well as the art of cinematography.

pushpills, I'm a movie fanatic as well, my favorites lately tend to be asian horror..but I love the bad bad bad b-flicks as much as the dogme stuff and even the artsy fartsy arthouse stuff...

I'm mulling kicking off a movie review site of low budget and independent movies...a site who's readers can appreciat Ed Wood as much as Richard Linklater, who can show as much love for a Harmony Korine flick as a Kevin Smith movie. After all this time of posting, I think you and I maay have exactly one thing in common ;-)

yes, I did and I wasn't impressed...
my first words after watching were:
what is a fucking point besides self indulgence??

I happen to know Russian history and art, so this movie brought no revelations...and BTW, I watched it because I read your review back in a day

I like David Mamet....

One of his diologues could be directly from an Oprano thread:

DON: 'Cause there's business and there's friendship, Bobby...there are many things, and when you walk around you hear a lot of things, and what you got to do is keep clear who your friends are, and who treated you like what. Or else the rest is garbage, Bob, because I want to tell you something.

BOB: Okay.

DON: Things are not always what they seem to be.

BOB: I know.

Mamet's a brilliant writer.

like in Glengarry Glen Ross (one of my all time favorite movies):
Blake: Your name is "your wanting", and you can't play the man's game, you can't close them, and then tell your wife your troubles. 'Cause only one thing counts in this world: get them to sign on the line which is dotted. You hear me you fuckin' faggots?

-----

Dave Moss: Who are you? What's your name?
Blake: You see this watch? You see this watch?
Dave Moss: Yeah.
Blake: That watch costs more than you car. I made $970,000 last year. How much you make? You see pal, that's who I am, and you're nothing. Nice guy, I don't give a shit. Good father, fuck you. Go home and play with your kids. You wanna work here, close. You think this is abuse? You think this is abuse, you cocksucker? You can't take this, how can you take the abuse you get on a sit?

Now I gotta go break out the DVD and watch the movie again. I could watch Alec Baldwin's speech over and over again.

Been a lifelong fan of low budget and independent cinema. The wierder the better. Splatter, mondo, arthouse, Troma... I love them all.

Haven't seen anything outstanding lately. Still waiting to catch 'Spun', when a DVD copy is finally on the shelves at the video store, instead of being rented all the fucking time.

Seen anything good yourself lately?

Unless you can at least remember, if not enjoy, things like Kung Fu Theater on Sunday afternoons in the 70's, you're not going to "get" Kill Bill completely. Tarantino is a lot like Kevin Smith, if you were not influenced by the same pop culture as he was during the formative years, you're going to miss half of the funny inside references.

Volume 1 was pure action, very little quirky Tarantino dialogue. And it was very much a tongue in cheek over the top homage to Kung Fu movies from the 70's with blood literally spraying when an appendage would get cut off. Though it did have it's Pulp Fiction-esque moments such as when Boss Tanaka took issue with O-ren's lineage....

Volume 2 has much less action and a lot more talk. It fills in the story. And both Bill and Pai Mei have some excellent dialogue.

in my "movie geek" circles, I sometimes spark outrage with the fact I didn't care for Casablanca, Citizen Kane or..gasp...Psycho...
while I admire these films for their place in history, I'm just not a huge fan (and I wouldn't call them bad or anything, they are actually good films, just not in even my top 250)

My favorite Hitchcock is the one most seem to forget about "Frenzy" (Hitch's first and only R-rated movie)

I liked Kill Bill Volume 1, but I hate the fanboys who brag about how original Tarrantino is...I like him and hs movies, but they almost always contain nods, winks, homages, etc. to other films.
I like it too. That's what I like about Tarantino. His references.

For anyone that doesn't remember, Kill Bill is referenced in Pulp Fiction. ;-)

It was a Tarentino weekend for us so far.

Watched Kill Bill Volume 1 on Friday - Enjoyed it a lot, however I did get a little bored with the endless fight scenes, looking forward to volume 2 being more dialouge and less "Kung Fu Theater"

Saw Resevoir Dogs last night, really liked it, I had not seen it before, although I though everyone in the film was great, I would have to givre top billing to Buscemi, from the openeing scene in the diner I thought he owned the film.

I am a Tarentino fan, have not seen a movie he was involved with that I did not enjoy

A lot of QT's characters exist in his own world and co-exist with each other
Example: the Vega Brothers from Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction

I liked the comparisons between QT and Kevin Smith above as well, they were both clerks in video stores, so always have a ton of movie references in heir movies.

One of my "dream jobs" is to own my own video store. Just to have a big shelf that says "Lance's Picks" ;-) Titles ranging from A Clockwork Orange to Gummo to Plan 9 From Outer Space to Screwballs.

The saving graces of From Duck till Dawn are Juliette Lewis and Harvey Kitel

and the classic line from when approaching the Titty Twister

and for almost painful Tarintino movie .....

Jackie Brown

but that does have Deniro and Samuel Jackson

Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right
Here I am, stuck in the middle with you

After falling in love with Resevoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction, From Dusk 'til Dawn was a huge let-down. Too commercialized, like he wrote it for someone else rather than himself.
Haven't seen Kill Bill yet (either of them). After FDTD, I was afraid it would be another letdown.

And I knew somewhere in the thread someone would mention Clockwork Orange - good god what a horrid piece of crap that was. The only reason it got "big" was *because* it was such a piece of crap and all of the wanna-be goth goonies in the early 90s were trying SO hard to be different and non-conformist that they flocked to this film because it was an absolute ZERO on a scale of 1 to 10.

I'd rather watch Priscilla, Queen of the Desert a thousand times over than have to suffer through Clockwork Orange one more time.
