I live within the city limits of Kansas City, Missouri, but definitely not in an urban area.
I am not afraid to leave locks unlocked at night, cars out in front or anything like that. I have been in the area for almost 20 years now and have not had any problems. There are areas of the city that are pretty nasty, but overall it's an ok place.
