The dumb blonde needs help

How do I put a zip file on my server so that someone can click on the link and it will automatically download? Is it as easy as just loading the file only a non-htaccess protected URL on my server, or is it more complicated than that?

it is pretty much that easy......

put it up there and then put a link to it...

default behaviour on it should be an http download....

always has worked for me.............

should be able to just upload it
when the link is clicked, it should prompt for open save or something like that.

Be prepared though, there will always be someone out there using a Mac with an old browser that doesn't understand what a .zip file is and will thus display the file as text.

And good luck trying to explain to them how to fix it.

Make it a text link, something like:

"Click here only if you have a real computer"

I'm sending content to page designers - if they don't know what a zip file is at this point, I probably don't want to utilize their services. :P

Now wait a minute....

I know some very good graphics/html people that would not have a clue what to do with a zip file....don't know shit about ftp, don't know anything much about how the web really works....

But they are whizbang at putting pages and shit together....

They know how a link works, how css works, they know everything they need to do their jobs, but they are NOT webmasters...

They are designers.....

Not for adult sites they're not. :P Seriously, if there was an adult page designer that didn't know about a zip file, I would figure they hit the internet yesterday and probably wouldn't understand what I wanted.
