There is no tie in between emotional response and intelligence level that would back that up. In fact, I believe that you will find that if you compared the emotional ("kneejerk") response of a highly intelligent group against that of a "normal" intelligence group, you will find the more intelligent group to have the stronger emotional "kneejerk" reaction. You will also find a much higher concentration of neuroses and psychoses among the group with the higher intelligence. So, an uncontrollable emotional response ("kneejerk") may actually be a sign of the presence of intelligence.

"There is no tie in between emotional response and intelligence level that would back that up."

Yet you claim the same thing in reverse without somehow backing it up?

"You will also find a much higher concentration of neuroses and psychoses among the group with the higher intelligence". I think you would probably be more likely to find certain kinds of mental health problems within academia then you would find outside of it. Much the same way there are mental health issues that you probably wont find in academia that you will find prevalent elsewhere.

Also, to lump all of academia into one group is absurd. Comparing people doing graduate work in art history to people doing graduate work in forestry and genetics, you are dealing with two very different crowds.
