Normally I do not post entire stories except in special cases... This is one of them...

I do not think this has been posted before...If it has, my apologies...."
Larry Walters on another board has said "You know we're a necessary evil. Nobody likes the sharks until you need to sick us on your enemy. Like they say, the only good lawyer...is YOUR lawyer! " Guess what... he's not my lawyer.

Read his statement for yourself here.

I had an interesting experience with Larry Walters regarding an age verification script I had created.

The script verified age by birth date. I had a couple programmers at the EFF ( Electronic Frontier Foundation) create a javascript for all adult webmasters to use for free. To make a long story short evidently Larry Walters has a PHP script that (if you are a paying member of his firm) you get for free. I received a few emails from Larry Walters.. A couple snippets:

"When did you release it? It may infringe on my patent, but we can work something out if it does. Can I see a link to where it appears?

Part of another email that same day:

"If you show me where to find it, I can give you my thoughts on whether it is infringing on my patent rights."

More was posted here on Oprano regarding Larry Walters. When someone says they have, as Larry put it "patent rights" to this type of age verification script.. I think it's time to take notice.

I ended up scrapping the script because I didn't want to be "infringing" on what he thought might be his "patent rights". Why would a "first amendment" attorney be patenting a script for age verification? I see he comes out with self promoting articles at times but I wonder what kind of work he is doing behind the scenes, and with who.

I have nothing against Larry Walters. I don't even know him. I'm only sharing this experience I had with him.

Note: ( a search of the patent office pending patent database shows no "birthdayverifier" script in the process of obtaining a patent )
