That's funny. My grandfather is a genuine science and book freak. He spends all hisi time reading.
The first question he asks when I see him is "What are you reading?" When he meets people for the first time he says "What do YOU read"?

I thought he would love the net. He doesn't.

My parents love the 'Net. My dad just turned 62 this year, so he's a little younger than the 70's crowd we're discussing, but he's actually the one that got me online back in 97/98.

My mom uses it purely for surfing news & reading jokes (which she forwards to me continually - lol) @ iwon.com, playing games @ pogo.com and putting up photo albums of the grandkids @ picturetrail.com.

Dad likes it for tech news (PCMagazine, TechTV.com), researching stuff (he Googles everything!) and for collecting his fart jokes. He also loves playing in PhotoShop with the pics of the grandkids that my mom puts online.

They were the first ones in the family with a computer, the first with AOL, the first to break from AOL and get a REAL connection, the first to get broadband and the first to get a digital camera. Basically, my parents leave my siblings and I in the dust. lol

We got my grandma (in her 70's) one of those i-thingees from Compaq to send/receive emails from the relatives back east. She loves it. It was quite a learning curve and I'm sure I lost a lot of hair over it, but it was well worth the lessons.
