I see a lot of sponsers are offering hosted galleries for tgper's. Are they working/profitable for your program? I've talked to some sponsers and the opinions have been mixed. I'm just curious what other people that run programs and offer this have to say.

Hosted galleries can definitely be worth it. The problem with some of the hosted galleries I've seen is that they are put together worse than the ones I've seen from TGP newbies.

Gallerymaking is an artform and what works one day doesn't always work the next day, but the days of a banner- 5 pics - a banner - 5 pics type galleries are long over and this is what I see from some of the sponsors offering hosted galleries.

A good gallery should be like a full page ad. It needs to grab the attention and sell the site before sending the surfer to the site.

The advantage of offering hosted galleries for sponsors is that they can control the advertising message. say they want to change prices or not even mention pricing on the galleries, they can do it without the webmasters having to worry about going back and changing their galleries.

I really want to spam here, but I should probably wait until we have the new portfolio designs up

SkyyBoy is right, hosted galleries are like one page tours they need to look good to work well. Hosted movie galleries are getting more and more popular as well. For the most part, we look to break even, or come out slightly ahead, on the initial joins. By the time you add up productions costs, BW, and affiliate payouts there is often not much left over. It is on the rebills where they pay off. There is also the "getting your program seen" aspect. Even without joins, many webmasters see your program, check it out and begin promoting, so it is just as much as way to promote your affilate program as it is to get joins.

I dunno why we don't just cut checks to the resellers and say fuck all to them even bothering to send traffic

I HATE the "having to look like FPA" trend that has come.

I still maintain the only thing that should be "pretty" is the paysite/AVS you are sending them to. The fact that they want everything pretty and clean only keeps hurting the biz.

I thought TGP's were supposed to die out... seems like they are only getting stronger. More sponsors seem to be relying on TGP traffic than ever before.

Would be nice, if paysites had lower payout for signups send via hosted galleries (like the lower payout webmasters get from console free tours)... that way the extra bandwidth cost would not be added to the cost per member at paysites (ex. $35 payout + $X bandwidth + $X content)... I fear that added cost for paysites would lead to more complaints about shaving... However if paysites lower their payout for signups via hosted galleries, then they will find a new way to get more income.

TGPs sending traffic to these hosted galleries are not used to earn full payout on their old gallery spots, so paying full price to them is given them the idea that bandwidth and content has no cost. The Hosted Galleries should be about getting more money from the same ammount of surfers (like Sykkboy said using them as full page ads or 1 page tours) - not adding cost to the paysites.

Monk, I think TGPs are the only free sites really left.

The industry is consolidating.... the middle class webmaster - the one who ran nice free websites, a link list or 2, and maybe a few AVS sites are gone. There are only the poor and the rich for the most part.

We are heading to a industry where you either run a program, or play the TGP game.... You do not even see much SE work done....

Everything is TGP and programs.... top and bottom.....

The ones out of business in 3-6 months will be webmasters only doing free tgp submissions (or any other way, where you get traffic for free).

TGPs will first die off when paysites moves to the next level in their internal marketing and cross selling... however even then TGPs will still be around, and they will earn their pennies from surfers doing donations to keep them alive

Not necessarily..I'm not talking about clean, but forcing your surfer to look at your whole advertising message...surfers are blind to banners, so if your gallery is synergetic to the tour, it helps...in other words, the same colors, schemes, different fonts, etc.

If the ad is clever/effective enough, the surfer barely notcies the thumbs but sees the whole message and with the TGP gallery looking similar to the tour, it keeps the continunity and synergy, which can result in better traffic.

(I can't believe I used the "s" word )

Actually, what hosted galleries will do is eventually kill off the small TGP submitters...as TGP owners use the hosted galleries on their TGP's and only take a handful of submissions from othr webmasters.

I think we'll start seeing new hybrids of sites that aren't just standard porn sites, rather full adults only entertainment sites. ever notice the growing trend of strip clubs to now have restaurants, sports bars and Monday Night Football nights? Full Adult Entertainment Package

for better or for worse, it seems like strippers are almost an after thought......damn, now I'm depressed.........

Something I have learned in the last little while is integration - not having all the thumbs in a single block, but spreading them out and putting promotional stuff where surfers would normally expect to see free stuff - so rather than 4 rows of 5 thumbs (example) you might replace two thumbs with a small banner, etc... squeezing text between rows, and generally ASKING for the sale - moving the surfer forward where you can.

The big TGPs are doing okay right now listing sponsor galleries, but I think that the "sameness" problem is going to get them, the same way it has gotten to the 4 panel tours.... once people have seen the same galleries in the same layouts a few days in a row, they will run and move on to something else. Right now TGPs have the upper hand on pure volume, but that will play out.

I also think that programs aren't ready for the costs associated with the hun moving to all sponsor galleries... imagine a smaller program getting 20-30 million tgp hits a day (looking at 10 pics each, that is 300 million pictures a day) that don't convert - that can start to cost ya...

It is a transitory situation - anyone want to guess where it is going?

Alex

TGP's are not going anywhere. Sponsor hosted galleries need to be used in combination with user submitted or other daily updated content to be effective.

More than 700+ webmasters have created TGP pages using my system in the last 45 days.

TGP has matured to a new level, it's the paysites that need to adapt to take advantage of that.

The old style TGP is out the door already. It's only a matter of time before the site owners realize they are dinosaurs.

Darin, you just posted the answer already...

with 700+ new tgps in the last 45 days, at that rate there will be 5000 new ones from your system alone this year... all using the same sponsor galleries, etc...

the surfers will figure it out soon enough... they will get bored with the same stuff on every other site.

Maybe I'm confused but aren't site owners and even more so program owners who pays everyone

and we all know the majority of traffic is in bulk mailing

I think you have to have Hosted Galleries for the same reason Plugger suggests, it's a service, if most of the other programs have them then you gotta provide them too or the 'appearance' that your program is falling behind and not doing everything it can for webmasters is out there.
Free content, free galleries, free hosting, pretty soon it will be free paysites given away complete with members area, in return for the exit traffic.

But will paysites really want to make thousands of new galleries each and every day, provide design/bandwidth/content for free, and then pay the TGP owner $35 per signup? The math doesn´t add up. Pay the TGP owner $15-20 per signup from Hosted Galleries, and paysites will be able to make this work for both the TGP owner and Paysite.

Nothing is free, someone got to pay the bill, and in old days with tgp submiters, then they paid for the design/bandwidth/content - not the paysites (yes, we know about free content and free hosting provided by paysites, but most of this was lowend and either the free host was banned from the tgp or the content was so overexposed that everyone had seen it 10 times before and it didn´t get listed). Would it be any different with Hosted Galleries delivered by paysites - the same costs, but now TGP owners can take part of profit from traffic, and not just give it away for free.

How many paysite owners would like to pay $35 for a signup from ex. Russia, which came from a hosted gallery, where the paysite also paid for the design/bandwidth/content.... No matter how much volume you make and costs get lower, then this will be a bad deal... pps paysites will start to filter off the bad converting countries, and webmasters start to see even worse conversions and complain about shaving etc.

I would expect conversions to fall atlest 40%, if all paysites had hosted galleries, where they paid top dollars per signup, and also paid for the design/bandwidth/content.

Hosted galleries is a great concept, but the current payouts by most paysites are to high, and if they continue then it will have a negativ effect on both paysites and tgp owners.

An Anon with the sense of Irony.... scary stuff!! :P

Rolo, hosted gallries are no big deal. IT might eat a little bandwith, but with BW prices dropping they are not a major factor in expense. The money to create great gallaries, abd the dubuios signups from them might be more of an issues.

We have looked into the idea.... but like everything dealing with TGP and such it gets blown out and destroyed quick.

As I said the middleclass webmaster for the most part have been pushed out of the industry. IT is now the TGP players, and then programs. Most TGP guys are happy to make a few grand a month, its better then flipping burgers at McDonalds.... so they will continue to push the limit more and more, adding more and more garbage and devalueing traffic.

Oh and ANON - you are very right about Bulk Mailing - it is the way a majority of programs get their best traffic.... Everyone mails now... I personally get over 120 porn spams a day... which is pretty scary. WHich is worse, I get more in non-adult....

Nope, the surfer who wants free will just keep looking for free

That line of thought might be true if there were a limited number of galleries ... say 100 or so but there are thousands of galleries for the surfer to sift through including movie galleries - no reason for a surfer who wants free to ever purchase

Would like to add to the statement I made above

There will always be those who are willing to pay (and some who will overpay) for a product or service, key component being perceived value to the buyer (think flying first class)

and again the other side of that coin being there are those who will not pay, especially when they feel enough product/materail is available for free

As for TGP dying out - they are like the gold prospectors working a 4 inch sleuth
Not much return on the investment but with cheap BW the only cost is time and those playing TGP don't have a better use of their time for generating revenues

Is it profitable for the program owner to host the galleries
Would say marginally so for the time being - if it wasn't there would not be as many hosted galleries as we see offered

That is assuming new galleries are not created and hosted. Even so, surfers seeing 30 various pages with pics from the same sponsor may eventually see a few they like and signup.

Thats the point.

The whole idea of TGP is to convert them to a paying customer, not offer them vast amounts of new free porn.

Hosted galleries are simply another way to get surfers viewing your content and banners, working them to a signup.

Whoever is not offering hosted galleries is simply missing out on a lot of potential traffic.

Bandwidth prices are not an issue if your system is built efficiently.

Bandwidth is alot cheaper today then 1 year ago, and it will probably be even cheaper 1 year from now, however conversions were also better 1 year ago, and conversions will probably be even worse 1 year from now...

---

Most average PPS paysites who will payout $35 on a $1.99/$39.95 membership today are not going to see great returns, so adding to the cost per member by adding free hosted galleries is going right from the profit margins.

Lets do some very average numbers (note there are alot of factors which I have left out - just trying to do some very overall average numbers )

Signups from TGPs without offering free hosted galleries:

$35 per signup + costs for bw/hosting, content and design $0 (tgp submiter paid all of these costs)... Total cost to get a signup from a TGP = $35/signup

Signups from TGPs with offering free hosted galleries:

$35 per signup + $5.95 bw/hosting ($0.85/GB = 7GB = 50K uniques to gallery, for every 1 signup) + good gallery design and content is $100 per gallery.... Lets say you get 100 signups from a gallery which have these numbers, then your total cost to get a signup from a TGP = circa $42/signup

Then start to add things like really low conversions from trial to recurring on tgp traffic, more chargebacks, more fraud, more content stealing etc. and the above numbers start to look even worse...

Now as I said, there are many factors left out, and the numbers will be different from paysite to paysite, TGP to TGP, and volume to volume - just tried to make somekinda of average to show my point... and that is more cost per signup for the paysites, which surely will be taken from the current paysite profits.

So how will paysites pay for this extra cost without more scrubbing, more cross selling, higher pricing etc. which again will lead to even worse conversions in 1 year from now.

Average paysites giving away new free hosted galleries on a daily/weekly basis without lowering their payouts will not have it easy...

I think TGP owners will rather get a lower payout (ex $15-20/signup) if they get fresh galleries/content, good conversions, and timely payment... remember half of the deal for TGP owners is to get some good content/galleries which makes their surfers come back to their site - the extra income from the galleries is new to TGP owners.

rolo, couldn't have said it better myself ;-)

conversions are important to webmasters
quality of members is important to paysite owners

a tgp signup is worth around $15 to $25 depending on how much the paysite charges per month.

I imagine paysite owners will, or have already, just build a shave into any webmaster accounts that use the hosted TGP galleries. This has the effect of taking into account bandwidth costs incurred by the sponsor without getting the webmasters all riled up.

Shaving = bad conversions = bad business (well atlest from webmaster/reseller point of view). I would think most webmasters would hate to see conversions rates which are close to 1/3500+ - since it will mean a longer time before they get any signups in their stats, and they will probably get to depressed while reloading stats... today lots of signups make most webmasters/resellers happy - just think of when the e-mail programs began and webmasters were saying "I convert 1/10 and get paid $0.25/signup - wohoo"...

The overall value per cc signup is alot lower than 1 year ago, and it will probably continue to loose value with new cc rules, more scrubbing, smarter surfers etc.

As I see it, then webmasters/resellers have 3 choices:

1. Get paid unreal ammount of money per trial signup and get shaved and have really bad conversions
2. Get paid real ammount of money per trial signup and get good/honest conversions
3. Just look at the bottomline each month

Newbie webmasters are fewer and fewer, so the "get $1000 per signup" programs doesn´t seam to pull the same ammount of traffic as they used too... now webmasters want to promote sites that convert

I agree that the tide is slowly changing to people who want more realistic payout rates in exchange for honest stats but it seems to me a large # of webmasters are still swayed by the high payout rates.

I know there are some veterans who play TGP's but seems to me this is the place where most newbies would go if they are getting into the industry.... thus that group may be more susceptible to the lure of the high payout rates.

The important thing to remember is that more and more TGPs are moving to 50%+ sponsor hosted galleries - this is happening quite rapidly. I think this is going to catch alot of them by surprise as the volume will be HUGE.

I expect to see "one gallery" rules pretty soon, or the list of galleries replaced by a "gallery of the day" in order to keep the exposure down some. Otherwise, not only do you get 1 in 50k conversions, but the 49.999k that don't buy also look at 10 galleries per day... so now that $35 that cost you 42 actually cost you closer to $50.

It may surprise some of you, but I know of TGPs where you can get 100,000 plus hits and not a single sponsor click out. These surfers are well trained to spot sponsors and avoid them like the plague. No matter how fancy the gallery, not matter how enticing the offer, they are not buyers and they won't get tricked into it. But they will view each of your pictures (and probably post them to the newgroups 5 minutes later!).

Yeah the dog and pony show days maybe over. Realistic, fair payouts with solid stats are indeed important. It is funny how the competition for traffic from programs had everyone offering the world....

Like Serge used to say, I will pay you whatever you want per click or signup.... please let me know.... but your ratio will be adjusted! haha

Anyone who has been in business and has reasonably good business sense knows to look at the bottom line - if it is CPC earned or how much a mailing will earn (including long term revenue generated by partnership proggy's)

Join ratio's really don't matter compared to dollars earned

What you are posting Raw Alex further demonstrates the points I have made

Market corrections as top what a join is worth?

I see what you mean Alex - its a never ending battle/balance between free and pay (one can not function optimal without the other). That is why I think that hosted galleries will be good, because then we will atleast have someone in charge of the galleries, who want to make money from them...

Hosted Galleries will cut the "smallest fish" out of the foodchain (free tgp submiter - only doing this, because he wants to show his private porn collection).

TGPs will accept more ads with hosted galleries since they get a cut from the gallery income. TGPs who have really bad traffic will ofcourse not make any money from this, and hopefully hosted galleries owners will start to drop these TGPs (getting their bandwidth bill and see the zero clicks in their outgoing logs should do the trick... ok, maybe that will not happen at first, but it would be nice to see some more policing by hosted gallery makers).

Rolo, if I was a program offering hosted galleries, I would make sure that I have full stats for ALL calls to the hosted galleries - exactly how many (pre-shave) signups are made versus page displays on a per referal basis.

Given a couple of months, I would move to shut down access from less productive sites.

Remember: if you are trading exit traffic with a site that does alot og hosted galleries / tgp traffic, then the value of that exit traffic is also going to be down (because conversions will be worse to start with)... so you go from 1 in 1000 mixed traffic to maybe 1 in 2000 mostly TGP traffic... suddenly hosted galleries are not just changing the numbers for a single site, but for all the other sites and programs they trade with.

Ah well if there were only one way to make money in this business we'd have one program owner, one board owner, one tgp owner, etc...

Anything can be turned into money if it's handled correctly in this business. Saying that mailing is the only or the best way to make money is like saying blue is the best color car to drive. It's one way yes, but not the one that works for everyone or the one that everyone likes to do. And as more people get into mailing, it becomes less profitable all the way around, just like anything else.

Why do sponsors have hosted galleries? Well, having instituted them at one program I can tell you why we did it. It wasn't really about doing sales from them, same as having a freehost or offering free content to the resellers... it's about giving resellers enough tools to feel that your program is doing the most for them, and thus grabbing their other traffic that they could send to other programs as well. If they break even that's great, if you get more resellers sending more traffic and therefore creating more joins in the overall program then it should be worth it if you've set yourself up correctly with hosting and hardware etc.

If the competition isn't doing hosted galleries and you are, there is an edge. If the competition is doing hosted galleries and you aren't, then you've just handed the edge to your competitor.

And as anyone who plays the big dick game -- oh wait I think that's called the volume sales model lol -- you are only as good as what you can get ahead of the competition with today and you have to keep thinking for tomorrow.

Personally I can't wait to see people just paying resellers, forget the sending traffic or making sales. It's bound to be coming at this rate.

I think the TGP's can be used to creat brand awareness too. This will mainly work for a paysite that has some character, like Milf Hunter and reality sites or very good niche sites who have exclusive content.

The paysite sticks in the minds of the surfer and they will specifically seek out that site when they are pulling their wanker one day, because they know they liked what they saw and they know the site is always updating with fresh material each week.

The only problem is oversaturation if too much of your stuff gets out there for free. I suppose this could be cured by only using older episodes/material in your TGP hosted galleries and whenever a surfer clicks off to the paysite they will see all these new fresh episodes in the tour that they have never seen before.
