Cal,

Are you talking about "The Big Collision", the theory by Neil Turok and Paul Steinhardt?

If not, reference please.
I was talking in particular about research by Abel, Norman, and Bryan. Specifically their computer modeling which has recreated this process. To quote:

'The trouble with earlier predictions was that none of them could account for all the complex steps involved in the transformation of a cloud hundreds of light-years in size to something as relatively puny as a star. At some point, calculations simply gave way to educated guesses. Abel, Norman, and Bryan took away the guesswork.'

The two of us read different types of stuff I'm thinking, you definitely appear to be more in the math/theoretical area of science, whereas I read actual studies and findings from the sciences. So I just regurgitate, which is fine with me, not enough hours in the day to read long novels.

I think the evidence of hydrogen and oxygen, and potential findings showing atmospheres on other planets outside of our solar system implies that complex molecules are a lot more common than some people think. Again I'm not really qualified to make such judgements, but based on my casual observer standpoint, the universe is too huge and diverse NOT to have created the same types of molecules in more than one location. The big bang, 1st and 2nd, were both extremely big and random events, no doubt about it. But if we came out of one of many hydrogen clouds, I think it's logical to assume some similar matter may have come out of all the others as well.

Who knows, I'm grasping at straws to be sure. I just can't imagine there NOT being life elsewhere in the universe. Pick your poison.

C.
