There is plenty of hazing and abuse that goes on during basic training that's perfectly legal. The training methods of 40 and 50 years ago, with 4 or 6 or 8 million sad sacks in uniform, will not work today.

My grandfather lied about his age at 16 to join the Marines and go to Korea. he told me so many stories about boot camp that seem unimaginable today

he says he would not trade those experiences for anything.
