When you get right down to it, I'd bet that what got his ass a DD is the "impeding an investigation." Seems like something was pretty rotten in that command, with a couple of others in trouble and the Captain in the brig.

The bean counters are part of the reason for "a pass on the monkey bars because of blisters" - the DoD did a crackdown on pushing people's limits too far while I was in recruting (78-82) because they were discharging a shitpot full of people with disability benefits right out of bootcamp.

It's a different world. What worked on the draftees of WWII and Korea didn't work on the draftees for 'Nam. The methods that worked back then won't work on the all-volunteer services of today.
