Employees Allege Firings For Not Exposing Breasts To Gorilla
POSTED: 1:24 pm PST February 18, 2005 UPDATED: 1:45 pm PST February 18, 2005 REDWOOD CITY, Calif. -- Two former workers from the Woodside-based Gorilla Foundation have filed a lawsuit, alleging they were fired after refusing to bare their breasts to a famous 300-pound ape. The two former employees -- Nancy Alperin and Kendra Keller -- said they were pressured last year to expose themselves to a gorilla named Koko in order to bond with her. They refused and were later fired. Koko is well-known for her unusual abilities to communicate with her human handlers. The Gorilla Foundation claims Koko knows more than 1,000 words in American Sign Language. Both women are seeking monetary damages, alleging sexual discrimination and wrongful termination. A law firm representing the Woodside-based Gorilla Foundation says it is still reviewing the lawsuit.
