You know I have been watching alot of threads about mobile latley and billing options.. some people claim they can bill premium sms in the US for adult type content.. ie im not talking bikini stuff..

anyhow lets set the record straight for now.. some people say yes and well I know on my side of the coin I dont think its possible YET here in the US..

Also whats the deal with people claiming they can bill/use the verizon network? As far as I know they work on a closed system.. ie if I send a text message from my sprint phone with the link http://mobile.wired.com and send it to a verizon person he clicks on it he doesnt go to mobile.wired.com he goes to the verizon portal.. so.. how does someone send content to them .. outside of a potential email with a image attatched..

anyhow sorta rambling now.. but I think its good to shed some light on these two things.. I really hate seeing sites that claim otherwise.

I am awaiting to see who steps up to the mark, on the premium billing by sms, in the US.

No idea about Verizon they seem to be a law unto themselves for the moment.

I know a little about premium sms as we bill for europe via premium sms billing here at sex money.

As of right now I dont believe you can bill for adult websites or services via premium sms in the states.

Now with that being said sexmoney IS making webmasters money collecting cell Phone numbers in the same way we have collected e-mails in the industry for years. These are called Cell Phone cash Boxes and we are paying out 1.00 per confirmed cell phone number collected (2.50 for the 4th of july weekend). Here is a sample of our Geo Targeted Cell phone cash boxes you can use on any sites you choose

wow.. this tread went to hell quick

i guess ill answer my own questions from what I know.

currently you cannont bill premium sms for adult in the US.. If you do you got damn lucky OR are using a short code you bought to sell one thing but bill in adult.. big big NO NO..

You buy a short code in the US. then submit your product/site to the carriers and they either opt in or not so untill one of them pubically comes out of the closet to make money off us selling porn this is gonna be a while..

We use credit card billing for US customers for our mobile content we sell.

the Verizon issue. colpanic and I have been trying to bust this myth .. hehe that reminds me of the tv show Mythbusters.. anyhow.. from what we can tell so far their is NO way you can get adult content on verizon phone from a sms link that you receive..

so I think to any of the companies that are claiming this I say "BULLSHIT" I hope people have seen the Penn and Teller TV show called bullshit

Verizon was quoted last week of saying they plan to open up a bit towards the end of the year but as far as details to what that is is uknown. the article mentiond something about a brew delivery system to allow contnet though..

Actually Gateway:


I *have* seen some people do tricks to get a single image to a Verizon phone.... basically they wrap it up as an MMS message I think. It's not viable for anything beyond a single image though, and is a pain in the ass.

SMS premium billing for the US is still a pipedream...that's why we're focused on mainstream type stuff (beyond ringtones ;-)) I just don't feel like fucking with adult

I honestly think i draw the link on sms phone spam.. .. Its my one place where I dont get telemarketing calls, crap calls, only spam I want is from some hot chick in the same club that just took a photo of her crotch and send it to me.

Agreed. Crotch pics are always welcome

Presumably though, the Sexmoney guys are doing something more than spam. The ad's look like you are signing up for some dating site or chat service, although they don't mention there being a cost.

(Sexmoney: Please tell me they aren't for spam )

The issues worry me, but if you guys can explain why they aren't big issues, It could be a great ad for our sites.

I just don't want to advertise anything that will a) cause our surfers to get spammed... B ) let some joker put in everybody's phone number and get the feds on me for texting kids, or c) cost people money without them knowing it.

Can you guys talk a bit more about it?
