Not only do I like many team sports, but I've played many of them as well. I understand that games like baseball, hockey, and football are won by the team, and not by individuals like Randy Moss.
Of course there are many egotistical, infantile, prekindergarten players in many sports. But Randy Moss has just been added to my list of players that I will never, ever cheer for. In fact, I will forever cheer against him.
Dancing in the end-zone, and simulating a moon to the fans of Lambeau Field was just the icing on the cake for me. What really pissed me off about this moron was how he deserted his team on the field in Washington last week. Almost as bad was him trying to justify it on ESPN shortly thereafter. Sideways bashing his coach at the same time.
The guy has ZERO class.

Agreed. Unfortunately that is the trend.
Instead of athletes being role models to kids... these days they have become the example of what NOT to do. I used to hear the teenagers saying XXX is so cool because he did XXXX. Now I hear stuff like XXX is such a jerk because he did XXX or got caught doing XXXX.
At least kids are seeing through it and not hero-worshipping these losers.

a little info for ya chris.
Moss was imitating the exact thing Green Bay fans do in the back area by the buses to the losing team as they board their bus,.. turnabout is fair play.
Mike Tice is a garbage coach. He had a WINNING team, openly deserted them when he courted the University of washington to hire him as their new head coach, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SEASON AS THE HEAD COACH OF A TEAM IN THE PLAYOFF HUNT. unheard of. there was a reason that the defensive coordinator, not the head coach got the gatorade shower. He deserted his team and his team is not under his control anymore, at least not in their minds.
as far as Randy goes, Randy will be Randy. The Vikings are having fun, they laid a whooping on a team, and the rest of the team is right there with him. Randy Moss is the most elite player in the game. nobody has an effect on a defense bigger than he does. he makes his QB better, he makes a sub average running back a 1000 yard rusher. he is a weapon unlike any other at his or any other position (other than maybe Quarterback) he is eccentric, crass, and pure west virginia, but his teammates love him. What doesnt make the news are the touchdown balls he signs for sick kids during the week, the food he passes out at homeless shelters, the hospitals an united way programs he visits on a regular basis, on his time.
This argument pisses me off.. there is no RESPECT for THE GAME. its a GAME, it is prostituted to the nth degree... outrageous and entertaining. these people are not role models for what they do on the field. And the announcers are just as bad, Joe Buck going off on randy moss..uhh arent you in those Budweiser commercials with "Leon" who is modeled after Randy Moss... hey ESPN.... Janet Jacksons boob is uncalled for, but you can show the series Playmakers which shows sex, violence, and drug use.
WE create a sport and a culture of violent unpredictable adrenalin driven emotion and wild eyed lunacy and then balk when someone does something we think is innapropriate.
Go on with your bad self Randy... they dont want you shooting the moon in the endzone, tell them to keep you out of it in the first place
nobody can guard you 1 on 1 anyway
and i still hate the vikings for not playing like this one week earlier.
It is unfortunately a product of a culture where hip hop and the mentality around it is popular. The thug mentality and everything else that goes with it is considered "cool". And yes, the kids are emulating it. If you dont believe it, check out a basketball game at an urban high school sometime.
Originally posted by DrumWild@Jan 9 2005, 11:14 PM i missed that game, that sucks when someone leaved your team in the middle of important game.
there were 2 seconds left in the game and they were attempting an onsides kick.. even if they had recovered, 2 seconds would have expired and the game would have been over. he was just heading to the lockerroom early, openly frustrated at the way his team played when everything was on the line. ( about an hour later they backed into the playoffs with a seattle win).
not like he deserted his team, half the bench players were already in the lockerroom. there was no way they could have won the game because you cannot advance an onsides kick.
I like "hotdogging". I wish they'd remove all the excessive celebration penalties.
I've read some interviews with college players on the subject. A lot of these guys are from the ghetto, of course. They've had nothing to celebrate their whole life. Sports is the first thing they've ever been recognized for.
What's the problem anyway? That the losers might get their feelings hurt?

I'll never get that
Who would leave the NFL to coach in the college ranks? (I know others have done it)
As for end zone celebrations, I feel the NFL has it about right now
Penalties for what could be deemed excessive or premeditated
Got to find the balance between enthusiasm and taste
Oh fuck it - go with what sells

yup
most people love to talk about "ghetto-isation" of the game, etc.
what they are saying is "we are tired of seeing black guys have all the glory on the field"
I want to see more celebrations and hey, how about an onfield shivving?
in between family friendly things like commercials for 4 hour erections and beer commercials...

but at least one white tailback had more than 1000 yards gain. (rushing + receiving) in the last 10 years.
For 10 easy pts, can you name him?

On the celebration subject, I really dont mind them, they are pretty entertaining. They sometime do lack in class or show a bit of individualism that might not be best to their team, but, how does that affect me?
On the other hand, I also like the guys who gets up, hands the ball to the referee, and just runs back to the sideline smiling, hugging and ass pating with his teamates...
also, TDs are a great time for celebration, but some guys are not picking their moments... we dont need a dance for that 11 yards catch you just made... I know you got a first down, but they should be pretty common...

I personally like the endzone celebrations...I agree, if you dont like a specific players reaction to scoring, then keep him out of the endzone! The problem is everyone has their own definition of what is acceptable, in good taste, or excessive when it comes to the celebration....to each thier own, but for me, I cant wait to see what Randy or T.O does next
I know there are many who like the show-boating. More power to you.
Personally, I don't like most of it. Celebrating a score is one thing, humiliating your opponent or the fans of the game, or for that matter conducting yourself in a lewd manner is another. You wouldn't see Peyton acting like an ass on the field, because he's a gentleman player, and he has class.
The polar opposite might be the days when Bobby Orr would go end-to-end and put the puck in the other team's net like he was the only player on the ice, and then skate to his bench with his head down.
Someone has Moss' number. It's going to be a great hit, too.
