Ok, I'm not a believer in god and have always accepted the scientific method as the pretty much ruling method of figuring the validity of stuff, so usually I am on the side of arguing evolution over GOD. (I still would..lol)
But, it occurred to me yesterday, that as we get closer and closer to creating "life" in the laboratory, is that not proof that intelligent design is possible ? If we can create life, and further, create life to certain specifications than that could have been done in the past also. Generally, the way us skeptics debunk magic is by proving that the same effect could be accomplished in the lab without use of magic. So, isn't creating life in the lab debunking the idea that life could not have been created ? Again, I am not a believer in some all powerful omnipotent being, but that does not rule out some other creatures starting the whole process off. Anyway, here's what sparked the post by reminding me of last night's epiphany.... http://news.independent.co.uk/world/...icle315384.ece School defends its decision to teach 'intelligent design' Published: 27 September 2005 In a crucial test case, education officials in rural Pennsylvania have defended their decision to require students to learn about an alternative theory to evolution to explain the origin of life. Lawyers for the Dover area school board argued yesterday that the decision to teach intelligent design - a theory condemned by a majority of scientists as little more than "creationism-lite" - was not an attempt to force a religious agenda but a desire for pupils to keep an open mind. "This case is about free inquiry in education, not about a religious agenda," argued Patrick Gillen of the Thomas More Law Centre, a non-profit Christian law firm which is representing the board. The hearing is of huge significance. The Dover school board was the first in the country to make such a ruling but many other boards are watching the outcome of this case. ........................................

You were stoned. You were by yourself. I know that because otherwise , Another soner would have said..."dude thats heavy , but man , man, man, wait....who built those other creatures "that started the whole thing off" |

I believe that life was created...and evolution was *how* it was created.
Back in Catechism class I had trouble with the whole "poof" theory of creation, especially the Garden of Eden story. Why? Because it was boring. I had trouble with a God who wouldn't get a charge out of watching the whole "thing climbs up out of the slime" process. It must have been a real trip to watch. |

"Evolution Shmevolution"
Oh, wait, that was on The Daily Show 2 weeks ago! The entire concept of Intelligent Design is as ridiculous as Creationism.

Both. One does not preclude the other.
Plus ... science is fact, and religion is pretty much bullshit for the weak minded. |

Let's let the beings in the universe we create worry about such things.

Who SHOULD make such decisions?
Legislators? Judges? School Districts? Teachers? Parents? I think the best system would mimic the content in a nation's colleges. If you can convince the majority of Universities to teach a subject that is a good start. How that would work in practice I don't know.

Its stupid, because it's not science... its too easy to just move things up a level without anything to back it up, and then just claim "its because we do not know it yet", or "we will never understand it, because it is an act of god" etc... they should stop telling kids lies or half truths - it will not help them to keep an "open mind", unless its drama class.

Intelligent design is nothing but an attempt to force religion on kids.
