The common argument from TKD and Tradiational Martial Arts guys is that you can't grapple in the street, because the concrete will scratch you up, blah blah blah.
After seeing this, you'll understand why grapplers want to fight on concrete.
It's funny, during the whole thing, I could hear Rorion and Rener Gracie's voice in my head saying, "That the Headlock is the most common thing you'll encounter when fighting with an untrained grappler".
There were other ways of winning, but this was the best way to make a point.
i am very against any style of "fighting" that is not hardcore and brutal. Tai Kwon Do is one of the bigger jokes and best marketed fantasies of the martial arts world.
everyone wants to think that they can catch bullets with their teeth - without devoting their life to the art and its really sad that is such an easy thing to sell.
this guy seems to be typical of many martial artists who is probably somewhat good in his own area of expertise but has spent all his time practicing the same art and training with the same people in the same 1-2 schools - or competing/winning the tournaments for that style (like tai kwon do)... and completely lost perspective and learned the hard way, that you need to be a well rounded fighter, in great physical shape and an all around mean fucker to be a succesful fighter.

Hanging on is a common thing.
It didnt' take much strength to lift him as the TKD did all the work.
This is from Monte Cox, the promoter of th fight. Btw, TKD looked like he was dying, he just had the air knocked out of him.
Geeeezzz... I've explained this fight so many times and yet it keeps reappearing...
1. Fulton flew in the day of the show from Brazil to compete in a 4-man 200-pound tournament.
2. Bullock came to my hotel room three days in a row begging for a fight and talking shit... I turned him away each time.
3. Fulton was a little over the limit (like a pound) and the other fighters in the tourney wouldn't let him compete.
4. I had nobody for Travis to fight and he had flown all the way from Brazil.
5. Bullock came to my room while I was trying to figure things out... he said he wanted a chance and that I was scared he'd hurt somebody, etc...
6. I told him I would let him fight in the show.
7. I told Travis I would let him fight, but that he was much bigger and was not allowed to stand with the guy, or hit him... that he had to take the guy down and submit him.
8. Bullock had zero injuries... just the wind knocked out of him.
9. We had 5,500 people there and it was a great show...
Anybody's philospohy in a fight (not competition) should be rather simple. End it asap. Every person no matter how big and bad they think they are all have the same physical weaknesses, some which can cause a person to be crippled or maimed. Know ways to exploit those and you can end fights very quickly.

Really?
Sounds good.
I will allow you to kick me in the nuts, punch me in the throat, kick me in the knees, on top of anything else you need to do to end a fight quickly.
I will put $1000.00 bucks on it, winner takes all. I'll give you 10 to 1 odds.
I think the biggest problem was a difference in weight and strength. No way they should have been in the ring together. The little guy is lucky he did not get his neck broken.

Any martlia atrs are good for physical conditioning, and will in some cases give you a measure of confidence to defend yourself in many situations ( therefore I am of mind they are a good thing in general)
However with that said, I agree with Anthony that martial arts more oriented to dancing than fighting LOL are something will in EVERY case when fighting someone with the ability to fight. get you killed or seriously injured.
I do agree with JR and I am of the mind frame that wind is the most important single factor in ones fighting skills. ( a man cant fight you if he cant breath)
I believe grappling skills are the next most important thing when fighting a grappler
or in a sporting situation such as MMA tourneys.
in the street NOTHING is a subsitute for good striking ability in the hands of someone that knows how to use it.

90 percent of fights might end up on the ground, but 100 percent of them start standing.
Originally posted by Trev@Jun 15 2005, 12:41 PM Oh I forgot to mention I had a very nice 9 Iron and Anthony was un-armed... well in the begining at least...
You still remember that, eh? Sorry, old habits and all kicked in.
Not to digress, but the one thing to remember about all these secret death touch moves is that they are never really practised in an enviroment that is 100 percent alive and reisisting.
Sport MMA fighting is the closest there is to trying combat and seeing what works. For as much as TKD is bashed here by me, David Lousieu kicked Charles McCarthy in the last UFC with a TDK spinning back kick that won him the fight. On the other end of the spectrum, in the UFC 4, Keith Hackney punched Joe Son in the balls 20 Plus times, and it didn't end the fight.
If it won't win in a sporting enviroment, then how is it going to win in real life?
That fight was over before it started. The promoter was very smart, and you are definitely right - good luck to a taekwando fighter when you're on the ground. Tae Kwan Do is just a bunch of kicks.
The guy got off lucky compared to some of the other stuff. I could definitely see Fullton just laying on top of him, beating the hell out of his face, breaking his neck, etc.
