Default Creative Edge or Luck?

Okay, in line with Nick's request for a good business thread to amuse us over the weekend....here's my attempt...

I'm sure we've all come across sites that are a 'hit' off the get go...whether they are amusing, or helpful in some way....that all of a sudden are swamped with media curiosity, traffic and $.

3 weeks ago a guy started this site: http://milliondollarhomepage.com . In 3 weeks he's managed to make over 100k US. He's been mentioned in the UK media and the site's popularity soared.

Was he just lucky? Smart? Did he have that creative edge?

Do you think an Opranaut has the smarts/creativity/balls to mirror his success?

I dare you.........

I'm not sure if I've read the same UK papers, that site got slated in the ones I read. Plus someones been around these parts with an exact copy of it.

One thing must be said, that sites sold more space since I saw it last.

Then kudos to the original for maintaining the sales.

It still seems like a lazy way to rob someone though... so more kudos for that.

oh, and when I say 'mirror his success' I don't mean copy his page....I mean come up with something completely unique and creative that will enjoy the success his site has....

Yeah yeah...we all know your story Nick. :P

I'm talking a kid who decided to throw up a page and see how it flew....

100k in 3 weeks is mighty decent....if I made that much every 3 weeks I wouldn't be here right now..... :P

Personally i think it was a gimmick and will be gone soon .. they just need to reach saturation level and then burn out

I wouldn't personally say it was success, all he had was his 15 minutes of fame in the spotlight .. There are plenty of people on Oprano who have the smarts to do so much more ..

Then I say do it

Who wants to do this.....3 weeks, design a creative page/site and try to get as much exposure for the site as possible. Whoever makes the most $ wins....the more the merrier...

Nick, the exposure is for the site, not the person....private whois is a wonderful thing.

again...I dare you....
