Trick or treat: Halloween's already picking up online

With kids heading back to school, consumers’ minds are shifting from school supplies to Halloween. Internet searches for Halloween costumes increased 196 percent during the week ended Aug. 27 versus three previous weeks, while searches for backpacks were down 29 percent, according to internet tracking company Hitwise. During the four weeks ended Aug. 27, HalloweenMart.com was the top site, visited by 16.76 percent of those performing Halloween costumes searches. BuyCostumes.com was second with 16.18 percent, and CostumeExpress.com was third with 5.05 percent of the visits. People between ages 25-34 are most interested in finding Halloween costumes, says Hitwise, as Costume Express and BuyCostumes.com visitors were more than 50 percent more likely than the average web surfer to fall in that age group
