First time playing yesterday down in Atlantic City at the Borgata...
One thing I learned was I'm a terrible roller But this one guy was rolling it for 45 minutes straight, everyone smart made a lot of money. So who else here plays craps, and what are your strategies? I personally love playing 5 and 9, and a hard number if the point is even. after how many rolls will you start covering the board? |

POlay the pass line with full odds. Play the 6 and 8 and if one is the point the 5 or the 9. If the size of your bankroll can afford it you can play the 5 and 9 as well. Place come bets at leats once during a rol, if not more depending on the size of your bankrool. Unless you get on a roll like that 45 minute roll stay away from stuff like hardways and other bad bets.

Thats where my gray area still stands.. I waited a little longer than most of the players on that big 45 minute roll, but I eventually caught up and pressed it nicely. No one wants to cover the board to then crap out You wait until the roller has rolled - 3,4,5 numbers? |

I generally wait until the shooter has made 4 or 5 numbers and then I will play the entire numbers from 4 to 10 and press them at least one unit and then run with it from there and make some more agressive betting. Take into consideration how much you made off of those rolls to though. If, for example the shooter makes his point right away and you've only made money off of your pass line and odds you might wait another roll or two, if he's made you a ton of money on your 6's and 8's and 5 or 9 if you have one/both as well as making the point you might only wait 3 pass line wins before pressing and more agressive betting.

Yes, when playing craps I normally do win. I used to work in the casino business for years and made a lot of money at the craps table. You HAVE to have a decent bankroll to play craps and preferably play at a time when you can easily leave and come back to the table. You need a MINIMUM of $500 to play craps. Any less and you are wasting your time. With that minimum bankroll you should be buying in at $100 increments and playing with one unit on everything other than your odds. You need a big enough bankroll to be able to walk away several times if you have to and come back and hopefully catch that good roll and ride it. Walking away is like avoiding going on tilt in poker because you can cool down and avoid the "chase" mentality that makes you bet foolishly and accelareate your losses.

Thanks for the tips
The one thing I definitely learned is that the way to make money is to cover most of the board and hope someone has a great roll I guess you need to have a good feel also for whose a good roller. Yesterday i had big money on 6,8, and 9 while the 5 was the point. My pass line bet was also similar to what was on the numbers. THe guy definitely did nail down a 4 or 10 maybe about 8 times during his roll which I didn't cash in on. It was my first time. The one thing I wasn't sure about was when to start covering the numbers. If the point was a 5 or 9, i usually covered the other since I like those numbers. I definitely remember waiting a couple of rolls, covering 3 numbers, to then crap out on the next roll You going to be in vegas? |

This is probably the best and most common strategy. The problem with it is you need to have patience. Actually the secret to most casino games is patience. It is something I am working on.... I try to start slow with craps, but I ten to start putting money on all the numbers - especially BUYing 4s and 10s - great return! |
