Video previews, MGPs, etc. to promote paysite videos

Hey guys! I've been slow putting out previews and marketing the videos on my site and I'm trying to find some new ways to promote them. I hate movie gallery pages with the 20-30 second chunks but I have a fair number of affiliates now that list pages like that.

I made this preview page and one min. preview video over the weekend for one of my latest updates -

Preview is fine but Iv found that a clip that has no sound or little sound makes consumers feel like they are missing out on something.

I like the page layout, but the video is not connecting for me. Tried 3 times, still no go.

The text below the video is not lining up correctly either. I'm viewing with IE 7 for your info.

Everything worked fine for me, although you do need something for the audio there. BTW, I am using Firefox 3.5.5

I agree about the way the gallery guys want video clips, it just never made sense to me. I've even asked a few of them and the only answer I ever got back is "Well, that's just the way everyone does it!". I have tried to submit a single, well-edited, 1:30 clip, and always get refused. I keep being told they only want a minimum of 3 clips at 20 to 30 seconds. I really think these gallery people should understand it's now 2009, not still 1999!

It works fine on firefox but the video fails to load on IE. I like the page, but I do believe that gallery guys prefer three clips. My promo videos are a maximum of 36 seconds, but mostly around 25 to 30. I kinda like the idea of short and to the point. But that's just me. Not sure if they work any better. I think Toby will have a pretty good opinion on this.

My submit rules are the old 3 clips minimum with a total of at least 1 minute of video. It may be time to change that up. However, my submit rules don't apply to sponsor hosted galleries. I don't get many submitted video galleries anyway.

Something I do like to see when there's only one longer clip are thumbs for three or four jpg captures or matching photos. That gives a little better idea of what is on the clip besides just the one image. Plus, if it's a hosted gallery, that gives alternate images to use to make thumbs. If I list a gallery on more than one of my TGPs I prefer the thumbs to be slightly different.

One more thing... if you're using flv's instead of wmv/mpg clips the additional still images are critical, since most TGP scripts can't make a thumb for the gallery from the flv.

Ohh, and one other thing... Please make sure that one of those images can be used to make a decent portrait oriented thumb. I don't have a separate section on the main page for video galleries with portrait oriented thumbs, I just mix them with the image galleries and put a film clip icon in the corner of the thumb. If I can't make a decent portrait thumb I usually just pass on listing the gallery. Without a decent thumbnail image, the gallery just won't get many views no matter how good the clips are.

Our hosted video galleries each have 3, 30 second clips and are available in both Flash and HD WMV (960X540) versions. We also have 16-20 images with each video gallery, plus the story that goes along with it. Of course, all gallery content is available to affiliates to develop the promo they like.

Thanks for all the comments. I personally am not one (and neither is Audrey) to necessarily go along with conventional wisdom on these galleries. I don't like the 2-4 clips that are shorter thing either.

We're gonna go with the longer format no matter what, I think...I agree with the comment that it's not 1999 anymore. *LOL*

Now, as for sound in the clip....the girls just didn't make a whole lot of noise or talking during the shoot. Should I add music to make up for that? The movie itself is around 30 minutes, and it's all good "on-topic" action, so maybe I should make that clearer in the text.

Also, for those of you that had problems viewing it or had alignment problems, can you post screenshots so I can see what the issues were? That would be REALLY cool if you could.

As for the video not playing, it's in WMV format...maybe I should do a QT format instead? A lot of these that I've seen go with that, but I figured the WMV would make it more universal.

I think the major takeaway is that TGPs are far from dead and profitable if you work your angles.
