It was youngest daughter's birthday this weekend and on Saturday we took her to Birthday World with about 20 of her friends and on Sunday she had a pool party with about 20 more. We had a great time.

nope, pretty much everything, there is very little original ideas anymore, most of what is being done is either a copy or extension of another idea

I have a buddy that went to one of the most prestigious advertising/art schools in the country, and at the very beginning of him going to school there they told him one of the hardest things he would experience while being a copywriter and ad guy was coming up with an original idea, almost everything he will come up with will have been done already, the trick is reinventing that idea and making it seem original all over again

shit, I can look around my living room/car/outside and see very little that was an original invention

haha, we sat around one night driving around brainstorming, trying to find someone in our path that was completely original and never been done before that one thing we saw, it was SO hard to do

For some people it is. For others, it is easy. There are those who look beyond the obvious and create something new. There are those who look beyond the obvious and put a new spin on an existing device or design. Then there are those who consume said products and have no idea how or why they got there. I have been a copy writer and script writer and film maker. The guys that "invented" editing were the most amazing in a long line of creative people who follow their rules. No one knew how to make a film other than point a camera. These guys figured out how to cut it to tell a story. Then it was refined to what it is today and where it is going no one knows. But the rules will always apply. You don't have to do something that has never been done before to create something new. You just have to have a good idea and see it through to fruition. And there are a ton of good ideas that make money. But when I see guys like you and others shit all over my business, I know you have no fucking idea what sells or can see past your windscreen. That was a telling tale of your powers of observation and creativity.
