Default Online Porn turns the corner?

Just something I noticed in the last few weeks, a collection of things that may point back in a better direction:

1 - Titan wins a big judgement against a tube site: mostly this is an indication that if a content producer really wants to, they can control their content better than they have been.

2 - Visa kills cross sales to third parties: Hopefully something that keeps down some of the true scammers out there. I have seen much more signup activity in the last few weeks as a result, putting numbers on the board that are as good or better than late fall early winter.

3 - The Brazzers / Webmaster Checks thing: With the DoJ sniffing around and locking up accounts, the end may be near for some of the ways companies were profiting from the cross sales, etc. It was also a wakeup call to some of the more honest programs to check to see who they are in fact dealing with, because if that ship sinks, you don't want to tied to it as it goes down.

4 - WEG Cash gone: They aren't the only ones, just perhaps the most public. It would appear that come of their ideas / concepts / free signup stuff pretty much dead ended with an informed public and a lack of acceptable processing methods to turn hits into money. A number of other smaller programs have kicked off in the last little while, nothing major but it is happening.

5 - a downturn in the amounts of "tube style content" being made available by programs. Most of them appear to be catching on to the idea that tubes aren't selling their sites, they are selling everything BUT the sites. Content producers are tired of being the freebie given to sell dating and cams, and the programs seem to be getting away, at least in some ways, from making long clip tube material easily available.

5a - I noticed a few of the bigger tube players dropping dating ads and moving back toward selling porn.

5b - I noticed that many of the programs that went to in-house tube sites / traffic generation tools are either dropping them, shrinking them, or just closing and redirecting them. It appears many of them realize that paying affiliates is still cheaper than trying to do this stuff at home.

Now the good news results:

6 - New site announcements from programs. Just in the last couple of weeks I have seen new site announcements from programs, not just cookie cutter DVD rip sites, but actual "content" sites, including new solo girls and solo girl collections. For me, it is key that individuals and companies are able to look at the current situation and find acceptable business models. At the end of the day, content is still king, if you have it, people will buy it if you let them.

But on the other hand....

The Kendra sex tape, which like her or not has generated the most buzz for the biz since Paris Hilton's nightvision impression of a real doll, is trivial to find online for free for even the most novice of surfers.

It generates record pre-sale numbers for those who still deal in DVD's at the local smut and head shop, but online I doubt it's doing much. Is there even any program actively promoting it? If so, I haven't heard about it, though admittedly I don't get around like I used to.

I think in part the problem is that it was Vivid that got the video, and they are *not* the best at handing online marketing. They are great offline, they are as big as they come, but online, well, they are right up there with playboy and penthouse.
