This is not for me, it's for my parents.
They're in their early 50's and these are the folks who would drag me to every concert they went to (I saw Elvis live when I was 7), before the kids came along they'd go to techno dance clubs with me, my Mom's most recent thing is to sing "just keep swimming" from Finding Nemo... needless to say, they like to have fun.
This January will be their first time in Vegas, Dad's taking Mom out there to see Celine in concert. I want to give them a pair of Cirque tickets for Christmas.
But I don't know which one to send them to! There are 3 freaking shows now!! If one is more awe-inspiring than the others, that's the one I want to send them to, one that will really blow their mind that they'll never forget. But the new "sensual" show is supposed to be smaller and more intimate with loveseats and stuff so that might make a better show.
Help?!?

I have not seen the new one, though I plan to in January....
I am impressed with O....

I haven't seen the new one, "Zumanity" at New York, New York, but I did see "O" at the Bellagio. I still think it's one of the best shows that Vegas has to offer. It's worth every dime.
We're catching Zumanity, the new show while we're there. Already have righteous tickets down close. It is supposed to have a bit of an adult flavor. I haven't seen it yet obviously, but it is supposedly Cirque's spin on the old adult caberets.
"O" over at the Bellagio is absolutely spectacular. I've seen it, and the theater and stage alone are worth the price of admission.
Mystere is more classic Cirque though still much better than what you'll see in a tent since they have a dedicated stage with lots of neat tricks built into the theater.
When I first saw Cirque, I remembered "Pomp Duck and Circumstance". It's like a more quirky lowbrow Cirque, but with food.
I found this review. We went when it was in Atlanta. The last I heard (and this was back in 96) they went bankrupt. It mentions they were going to do a show in Vegas, but I've not ever seen it mentioned.
I have to admit, it was one of the most bizarre and fun evenings I've ever had.
Sorry - HP got me feeling reminiscent of the 90's tonight.

Who did you get your tickets through? I want to order soon....

O would be my suggestion. I'm going to see Zumanity in a couple weeks and I've seen the other two -- O is just so much of, well, so much going on, that it's a total experience.
I've seen all 3 ("O" and "Mystere" twice each) and they are all so different it's hard to compare them...
"O" wins if you compare music, overall presentation and story
"Mystere" wins if you prefer the extreme athletic ability and unbelievable strength of the performers
"Zumanity" doesn't win in any category other than lesbians in a bowl of water

Are "O" tickets pretty easy to get while you're there? I'd love to go but w/o knowing the schedules of everything yet, I'd hate to get tickets and not use them/miss something else.

Actually, KK....from what you can see of them, they are...
Thumbs way up on the Lee Noga scale....
I'd be willing to bet that part of the act is one of the only one's people remember...the rest were rather dull, IMHO...not that the lesbians weren't dull, but.....they were (hot) lesbians... (nod to American Pie 2)
Peaches, I recommend calling ahead....

LMAO @ "lesbians in a bowl of water" - I guess that rules Zumanity out!
Looks like it's gonna be "O". That's the one I was hoping you guys would pick because it just looks SO cool with the show being over and in the water.
Ticket prices straight from the site max out at $150 each, but I see them selling on eBay for $600+ for a pair - are these people nuts or am I missing some super-secret ticket section? Maybe those are for dates that are already sold out, that would make sense.

We went a couple of months ago on a Friday night, and were able to get tickets that afternoon. With a convention in town, it might be harder. The time of Internext is also the time of CES, the biggest consumer electronics show. If you want to go, you may want to order them before by phone or online.
Carrie, different sections of the theatre have different pricing.

Just checked the seating, can't get them into the front section of the orchestra the whole time they're there, but I can get them into the back of the orchestra section for a 10:30 show.
10:30 is so late though when you've been running around all day in Vegas. They could take a nap after dinner though. Hmm.

I dunno guys. I can get them into 2nd row orchestra in Mystere for a 10pm show or 5th row for a 7pm show. Way closer than I can get them in to see O (all the way back center orchestra).
That might be the kicker right there...

couldn't have said it better myself!!!
O is by far the best of all of their shows that i have seen so far ... haven't seen the new one - but saw mystere (with my mum) & we both loved it ;-)

Honestly, I was...
I love the Cirque shows, and Zumanity did not cut mustard with any other one that I've seen, including regional tent shows...
I agree with Serge on preferring Mystere....
O is a better show and presentation, without question....but to me, it doesn't have the "holy crap, how do they do that?" atmosphere that Mystere does....
You can't go wrong with either one!

Hard for me to say as Ihaven't seen Blue man Group but have heard great things about them
Of course I would say go see O
Both of us. He saw Alegria but it was a LONG time ago. He's also watched them on TV. BMG just seems a little more 20 year old male oriented, but at the same time, I like to try to put a little more adult culture into him, :P
Originally posted by Carrie@Nov 19 2003, 01:43 PM Peaches if you're going Sunday the 4th I can sit ya with some really cool people I happen to know
We aren't coming in until the 5th, so it looks like the 7th is the only day possible. Just trying to decide between the early and late show. Since PHB is cxld and that's why I decided to do 5-8 instead of 4-7 is anything else going to go on with the "crew"?

Hmmm - OK, adding another option to the mix - would a 20 year old male prefer O or Mystere?
I'd also heard that "O" was the best from a lot of people who went last year... we really want to hit a show while we're in town again this time - so we've been looking around too.
A great site for anyone wanting to see a full listing of all that's there is http://www.vegas.com
You can search by your arrival dates, what type of show you'd like to see, etc. - even pricing. They list all show dates, reveal black out dates, etc. and give full pricing and contact info for ordering tickets.

Uh, yeah, he wants BMG. :P
I've decided on O. Just waiting to hear what's going on party/dinner wise on the 7th before I decide 7:30 or 10:30. Good seats are still available for both.
I had completely forgotten to tell him about the Gameworks party, lol!
Your boy is not going to have any fun in Vegas! Well, there is Circus Circus and the rollercoaster at the top of the Stratosphere. Nice view from up there at night. :P

I figure if he's with the rest of us there won't be a problem with him at the bars (as long as he's not drinking booze) and on the showfloor, they'll just give him a wristband that shows he's under 21.
He won't be able to gamble, but he can go to Gameworks, dinners, O and even Zumanity only requires 18. I told him that if we were at a private affair and someone there knew his age and said he could have a drink, that was OK - but not more than 1 or 2, per "Mom Laws". In GA, you can drink in a private home as long as there's parental supervision and while he doesn't drink HERE, he's had drinks at Wig and other friend's houses all perfectly legal.
I also thought he'd enjoy going over to NYNY, the water show at Bellagio, the Treasure Island show, there's the Star Trek thing, the show at the Luxor, etc. In reality, we'll probably run out of time before we run out of things he's allowed to do, lol!

Blue Man Group, no question. And an excellent show for us old farts as well.

Oh, tons of stuff in Vegas he can do if you wanna play tourist.
The coaster at NYNY is pretty darned good. Though I hope they've put some round wheels on the sucker by now. Last time I rode the thing my collar bone was bruised and sore for a month because the ride was so rough....and there are parts where it turned me upside down and made like a jackhammer. A 20 year old will love it...they heal quicker.
Haven't tried it, but the coaster at Sahara is supposed to be pretty good too with one of those "instant speed" pneumatic launchs.
The one on top of the Stratosphere is kinda lame other than the fact you're over 1000 feet high. The "big shot" rocks though, you'll get some good free fall and completely leave site of the tower below you. Very wicked sensation.
The Star Trek Experience is very worthwhile, as is the Neptune 3D Imax motion ride over at Caesars. And as you already mentioned the Bellagio fountains are worth watching. Catch them once from ground level center on the sidewalk so you get the music and see it correctly. But it is also worth a trip up the Eiffel Tower at Paris at night to watch them from up there as well....kind of a cool angle....also best view of the strip (Strat is much taller but so far away from everything).
I dont know if the upgrade is in place yet, but they're supposed to be jazzing up the pirate show at Treasure Island as well. If so, I'll have to catch that one night even though I've seen it many times. I also catch myself watching the Mirage volcano even though I've seen it dozens of times too.
