Just curious Jace, but what big show do you know that is cheap? I'm guessing you're not really familliar with the convention biz in general, because it doesn't matter if it's a porn convention or an insurance convention, they're always expensive.

I've never been to a show yet that didn't pay for itself many times over in new business, so maybe you need to learn how to network better.

I have been to at least 25 "big" porn shows (consumer and trade) and many smaller shows in the porn biz, and internext florida is always the most expensive out of all of them...hell, we did AVN/Internext in Vegas for 4 years straight and never spent more than $1500 for the whole weekend.....and to be honest, the consumer shows are ALWAYS better because we meet potential members face to face, hell we still have people rebilling 2-3 years now from one face to face meeting.

I have made more money and done more long lasting deals from online meetings than I ever had from any trade shows....don't know why, guess I am just not a outgoing person, I have never been into sales...I am a pretty shy guy, so networking with people in a large setting like that isn't my thing....I am much better online, and I do damn well keeping it online

so, you are probably right, maybe I do need to network better, but I am damn sure not spending $3k+ to take lessons when I do it just fine from here on my couch

We will be in Vegas though for AVN and Internext, but only because that show is much more reasonably priced and the city surrounding it makes it a nice vacation also....

Unless you're including your airfare in that $3k, I'm not sure how you're coming up with that figure though. The show costs $300 and the hotel room is $189 per night or about $600 for 3 nights.

yes, airfare usually is included because it is part of the cost

now, multiply everything x2 because it would be silly for Tabitha's Toybox to be there and not have Tabitha with them

badges: $600
room: $600
airfare: $500
then food, drinks, etc, etc...usually ends up being $500-700 for 4-5 days

while it may not be $3k on the nose, it would end up being close, and shit, even $2k is too much in my book to maybe get some business, the same business a simple email or phone call could have gotten just as easily

I would like to go to the Florida show sometime, but my birthday falls around that time and I just like spending time with the Mrs., take some time off and just get that alone time that I need.

We will have representation there of course in the future, but not sure if it will be me....

You can take time off with the Mrs. anytime, why does it need to be on your birthday? Lame excuse and definitely a missed opportunity.

Price doesn't have anything to do with me not going to the show, I usually rather expect to pay $2-3 g's mininum for a show. More if I'm actually doing real business as I'll usually grab a suite....

But I agree that's one reason not to like florida and especially the new format, it's pretty much the Westin or bust...and there's not a lot of cheap stuff there.

Even in Vegas, you can do it on a budget, stay off strip, eat cheap, etc.

and one thing I LOVE about Vegas, is that if you get an itch to get away from it all, you can walk 3 blacks and literally in another country...LOL

Well, that's not true at all. There is a Holiday Inn next door that always works well for overflow and there are many, many hotels within a short cab ride of the hotel and if you stay at an offsite hotel in Vegas, I seriously doubt you're going to walk.

I put an employee up at a nice hotel no more than 2 miles from the Westin a couple years ago as a last minute thing and it cost me $69 a night.

We won't be going, again. We went in 2003 and 2004 and really got nothing out of it. We just ended up having a lot of people eating and drinking on our dime, with no real results.

We're still not sure about the next Vegas show. I think I'll go sailing instead.

I got airfare and hotel stay for a shade over $500 and I'm about a mile or so away from thw Westin. walking distance If I am up for it. :>))

The two owners are going down there with two of the models, lol, that's enough representation.

Besides the only time I take off from work is during my birthday, the rest of the year, including weekends is work time and I have business interests outside of porn I still maintain...so I have to carefully plan out my time off.
