i had always heard about oprano being a business board but had never found my way over here until a thread a few weeks ago by serge on gfy really opened my eyes to what this business is all about.

since then i've spent my free time over the last few weeks reading through the archives here and i can't believe how much useful information there was about business in the past. stuff i've never heard even whispered in private i found broken down step-by-step in the archives.

but then i start posting here and it seems nobody talks business on the board lately. is it over?

is it true what toolz says on his interview with jayman on webmasterinterviews.com that there's no future in this biz if you weren't here 5 years ago?

am i 1500 days late and a couple million bucks short?

Toolz is right....the easy money in this buisness has been made,
getting money today is a HARD work and talking about HARD WORK is as exciting as pulling teeth...

Great thread idea!!

We always talk biz here...you just have to know how to seperate the biz threads from the general tomfoolery.

And the class clown got moved to the front row!

i've been around a while, went hard for a year learning everything i could.

got hired by a big sponsor for a week and then quit the business for over a year.

i'm just getting back up to speed since deciding to do it for real in august.

i've got a few cool things cooking right now, mostly SE related. we just finished a killer project last night and we'll be testing it over the next few weeks.

i am still a newbie in most ways, but i'm persistent and optimistic, and i'm finally starting to understand how to make it in this biz.

Amen!

Nobody is going to say "okay, this is how you do it... Step One..." - heck, we tried that for years in newbie tutorials, zones and articles and nobody listened anyway. lol

But seriously... what I respect (yes, I said r-e-s-p-e-c-t!) most about Oprano is that for the most part, everyone here is a straight shooter. They tell it like it is - whether you want to hear it or not.

There's NO "tea and crumpets" served - Lord knows I had enough of that BS over the years - and I love that there's no "ass kissing of the sponsors" either. Everyone and anyone can get called on the mat at anytime and be held responsible for their actions.

But that's just part of why I love coming here... most of it is because of the great community and eclectic collection of minds that have gathered here. It's definitely something NEW every day!

The things you learn on Oprano these days aren't spelled out in clear How-To posts. You gotta learn to read between the lines.
For example, take a look at today's thread MikeAI put up about lawmakers thinking that porn these days is more offensive than it used to be.
There is a lot to be learned in that thread alone, but can you see it without it being clearly spelled out for you?

But at any time if you have a specific question, give it a shot and just ask straight-out. It can't hurt, and you'll probably get some replies.

There are some very good biz threads here from time to time, and tidbits dropped about daily. You can not expect to be fed like a 6 year old.

i fully understand what everyone is saying about not wanting to be handed the answers to all the questions. that's not what i was saying, just that it seemed that in between the politics and football lately it's been less prominent.

maybe i was a little spoiled by looking through the archives and having years worth of threads to read, it seemed like a high-level class on the business. i've never found any other board with this depth of knowledge.

i'm learning a lot just being here, and i'll learn more. i'll just have to start paying more attention to pick out the pearls

a lot more biz used to get done on the boards.

the advent of the threaded board imho ended it.

i now do 99% of my business by icq/aim.

dont believe me? look at this: http://www.oprano.com/msgboard/index.php?a...3c101717e5e0de5

Business is not necessarily done on the boards, at least deal wise - but many times it is the first step. Where like minded people can go, and talk - then bring the final deal to ICQ/Phone.

To get answers you have to ask questions.

For the record, I think Brad has a pearl:

Really? I am in the running for a job at a 'big sponsor', I hope working for them (IF i get the job) won't make me wanna quit the biz for a year LOL

couldn't happen anyway I guess. Have too many sites that still make me a little jingle..............and one thats still waiting on approval.
